Job Description

Hours: Full Time: 35 hours/week, Monday - Friday.Location: North & West Kent - Gravesend, Swanley, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge WellsTravel will be needed within North and West Kent for meetings with colleagues and clients as well occasional attendance at outreach activities such as community events. There will be scope for 2 days/week home working once training period has been completed.Are you a supportive and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about helping people in your local community during these challenging times If so, we’d love to hear from you.This is an exciting opportunity as an Energy Adviser, to help local people to cope better with the ongoing energy crisis and rising cost of living. Working in a friendly and encouraging team, you will be able to give local people the knowledge and skills toavoid fuel poverty, improve energy efficiency and reduce energy usage, access energy grants and rebates available and to deal with their energy suppliers successfully.In this role you will:

  • Build on valuable skills such as communication, listening and problem solving and increase your employability.
  • Gain relevant and practical experience for a future career in advice, law or public services
One-to-One Energy Advice
  • Provide advice and information to consumers on energy saving methods, energy bills clarification, energy grants and rebates, meter issues, switching advice and energy efficiency.
  • Provide advice on benefits eligibility, with referrals to our benefits team where appropriate.
  • Provide advice on energy debts and energy trust fund schemes, with referrals to our debt team where appropriate.
  • Make referrals to our generalist advice team or other specialist teams, when the client has other non-energy-related issues.
  • Provide advice and information on the risks of Carbon Monoxide leaks.
  • Support the project manager with the development, delivery, and evaluation of the energy advice project.
Training
  • To attend and successfully complete our client’s training in energy advice and other relevant advice issues.
  • Keep up to date with news, legislation, policies and procedures relating to energy advice, including reading relevant publications.
  • To identify and develop own learning opportunities
Research and campaignsLook out for problems that are common or are unfair, to support our Research and Campaigns work.Other duties and responsibilities
  • Carry out any other tasks that may be within the scope of the post to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the aims and policies of our client.
  • Abide by health and safety guidelines and share responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues.
About You:You don’t need specific qualifications, but you’ll need:
  • A keen interest in energy issues and concerns currently facing energy consumers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent digital skills (good knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google suites, email, search engines, internet security and social media).
  • An enthusiastic attitude, patience and empathy to support people with the issues they are facing.
  • To be non-judgemental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own.
  • To be willing to learn about and follow the client’s aims, principles, and policies, including confidentiality and data protection.
  • The ability to prioritise your own work and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to work flexibly across the week to meet the delivery schedule.
