Apollo, the leading international art magazine, is seeking a new Editor.The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the editorial direction of the magazine in print and online, and creating a distinctive voice for Apollo that is alert to itshistory but furthers its reputation for outstanding, independent content. We are looking for someone with exceptional knowledge of historical and contemporary art; broad networks in the art and museum worlds; and a demonstrable commitment to magazine publishing.You will be a dynamic figurehead and have a dedication to editorial excellence - managing the Apollo editorial team and working closely with editorial and commercial colleagues to further Apollos reach and reputation as the magazine approaches its centenaryin 2025.Founded in 1925 and published monthly, Apollo is one of the worlds oldest and most respected magazines on the visual arts. In print and online, it covers everything from antiquities to contemporary work, as well as providing in-depth discussion ofthe latest art news and debates about the art world and the museum and heritage sectors; exclusive interviews with the worlds greatest artists and collectors; expert information on the art market, and reviews and previews of exhibitions worldwide.The Editorof Apollo reports to the Chairman of Press Holdings.Core responsibilities: Setting and maintaining a distinctive, independent editorial direction for Apollo that engages with its existing readership and attracts new readers and subscribers Delivering a high-qualitymonthly art magazine, with responsibility for commissioning articles and overseeing the editorial and design process Delivering exclusive daily content on the Apollo website, and overseeing the successful distribution of such content through other platformsincluding Apollo newsletters and social media accounts Organising, managing and mentoring the Apollo editorial team, and working closely with print and digital editors, as well as the Apollo designer, to commission and deliver high-quality content across allplatforms Overseeing key Apollo editorial projects such as the Apollo 40 Under 40 and the Apollo Awards, in close collaboration with the Apollo editorial team Collaborating closely with the Apollo commercial team, including devising and delivering editorialprojects such as content packages and events (physical or virtual) for relevant commercial partners such as art fairs Collaborating closely with colleagues at Press Holdings in departments including production, marketing and subscriptions, HR and events, asrelevant to the operational success of Apollo With the CFO of Press Holdings, budgeting annually for Apollo editorial costs in print and online; managing and keeping to agreed budgets Hosting events, chairing panels, and fulfilling other speaking engagementson behalf of the magazine or in collaboration with its partners Representing the magazine at events in the art and museum worlds, including at international events when relevantRequired experience: Experienced editor who has previously worked in an editorialrole Exceptional knowledge of historical and contemporary art, the art market and the museum sector A proven ability to think strategically Outstanding communication, writing and editing skills Previous experience of managing a small team; highly collaborativeThe capacity to develop and maintain key internal and external relationships at a senior level A firm understanding of print and digital publishing, as well as content marketing across social media and other digital platforms A confident public speaker Wellorganised with the ability to prioritise effectively
