Economics Teacher/Resident Mentor£24,328 - £41,169 per annum (dependant on experience)plus £12,000 per annum stipend for Resident Mentor roleUWC Atlantic is at the heart of a powerful global movement and at the vanguard of progressive education worldwide. These inspirational young people are the next generation of change makers, empowered to go on to careers and lives that create impact locally, nationally and globally.The College wishes to appoint an outstanding teacher of Economics to work within a highly successful Group 3 Faculty of Individuals and Societies. The Faculty has 8 employees and offers Economics, History, Geography, Global Politics and Anthropology.Experience with the International Baccalaureate is an advantage but is not required or expected. What is most important is that you have the ability to teach Economics well (IB Higher Level and IB Standard Level courses) and with a passion.Economics in both SL and HL is a highly dynamic and internationally diverse subject which explores the problems of scarcity and resource allocation across four broad sections including:- microeconomics which deals with economic variables affecting individuals, firms and markets, macroeconomics which deal with economic variables affecting countries, governments and societies and International and Developmental Economics dealing with global trade and human developmentThe IB Diploma is a subject group award so all students will be taking mother tongue literature, a first foreign language, a science, Mathematics and Theory of Knowledge in addition to a humanities subject.Class sizes vary but rarely contain more than twenty students. It is the practice of the Faculty for a teacher to be responsible for teaching each of their classes in a linear format for the whole two-year period. Economics is a very popular subject at the College and a number of students choose to write their extended essays in this subject, you will be expected to participate in supervision and have an understanding of research skills.A willingness to train to teach Theory of Knowledge would be an advantage. A willingness to serve as a Resident Mentor for a minimum of 3 years along with a commitment to live on campus for 5 years is an expectation.
