Job Description

Horatios Garden: Director of ProjectsHoratios Garden charity is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Director of Projects to join our growing team and help make a difference to the lives of people with spinal injuries. We are seeking an outstanding property professional with extensive experience of delivering a wide variety of projects.Your role will be to act as the Charitys Representative in relation to its exciting capital development programmes, as well as the facilities management of our existing garden projects. As one of the three members of the senior management team you will help lead the organisation to deliver the charitable objectives.The high-profile charity is bringing beautifully designed and built garden projects to NHS spinal injury centres. We work with well-known, leading garden designers and architects to create outstanding spaces in the heart of the NHS. We then maintain the gardens, employing a head gardener who manages a team of volunteers to deliver therapeutic activities in collaboration with the clinical teams.We currently have five garden projects open in Salisbury, Stoke Mandeville, Oswestry, London and Glasgow with a fifth due to open later this year in Cardiff and a further in design phase in Belfast and a further four projects planned over the next 5-10 years.Key Responsibilities are: Running our capital projects from inception, through design, construction and commissioning as well as reviewing subsequent operational and maintenance information to ensure projects meet pre-determined objectives. To manage the continued evolution of the brief for future Horatios Gardens To establish the detailed brief at the outset of each project Work with the charitys Finance Director and Fundraising Director to set capital appeal budgets as well as maintenance and life cycle cost estimates Manage the selection and appointment process for all members of the design team Work with the Landscape Designers, Architect and all members of design and construction teams to ensure designs meet the brief and represent value for money and efficiency through all stages of the project To oversee the planning application process and any associated applications for project consents including CDM, Building Control and all requirements in relation to Health and Safety including those specific to the NHS Estates Work with the design team (including Quantity Surveyor) to establish the most appropriate method of procurement for the Works To manage the development of legal agreements for the site with NHS Estates and their legal teams Act as the Charitys Representative in the relationships with NHS executive, clinical teams and Estates departments and any other stakeholders as appropriate. Liaise with NHS Estates to establish any specific requirements pertaining to project delivery and ongoing maintenance Facilitating stakeholder consultation during design Request and receive appropriate reports and attend all necessary meetings with designers and constructors to ensure that projects remain on track. Ensure that any exceptions are brought to the attention of the trustees. Setting up administrative systems and files for all projects both in development and when completed, including As Built Information Files and Maintenance Requirements Drawing up and ensuring delivery of a Maintenance Plan Support the Communications and Fundraising teams with materials and information on projects needed for marketing and PR to spread awareness and raise income Ensure strong internal communications of projects Support the charitys environmental policy and ethos Maintaining a full overview of property assets with a view to the protection of Horatios Garden real estate interests, both physical and financial. Join the SMT, leading the charity to deliver the charitable objectives.We are seeking a dynamic, resourceful and strong team player who can bring outstanding professional experience to the friendly team in an upbeat and energetic way. You need to be a doer and have plenty of enthusiasm and self-motivation.A central UK based candidate is preferred and a remote/home working environment is expected. You will be required to travel to the charitys projects as needed and attend monthly meetings at HQ in Salisbury.To be considered for this role you must: Degree level education in the built environment, architecture or landscape design Demonstrable experience in project management - and a proven track record of delivering a diverse range of projects including the appointment of consultant and contractor teams Excellent communication, negotiation and people skills 7 years minimum experience Be comfortable managing multiple projects and teams of contractors Experience of landscaping projects Good understanding and or experience of NHS projects Have a hands-on approach - we are a small organisation UK full driving licence and use of carThis is a full-time role although flexible working and part-time would be considered.
