Job Description

Handle Recruitment are excited to be working with an innovative and ambitious start-up multimedia digital publisher to recruit a freelance Digital Marketing Manager to join their small but incredibly accomplished team. Launching in 2021, their aim is to be cultural change makers, devoted to providing a platform that highlights diversity and dynamism of Pan-African Womanhood through developing and curating content on a range of nuanced topics for women from Africa and the African diaspora.The successful candidate will be joining the company at an extremely exciting time on the run up to the launch of the brand. You will be responsible for leading and developing promotional strategies so will need to possess strong digital marketing skills as well as being an excellent collaborator and team player, not phased by working in a fast paced, start-up environment.Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the CEO, Social Media Manager and the Brand Marketing & Product Manager to develop digital marketing campaigns to strategically build the brand awareness of the brand.
  • Carrying out end-to-end digital marketing campaigns from planning, strategy, budget distribution, campaign setup and activation, day-to-day optimisation and reporting.
  • Lead the execution of omni-channel digital marketing strategies to achieve maximum ROI, to drive traffic to the website and generate interest in company products and services.
  • Develop and execute digital marketing strategies using SEO, SEM, affiliate marketing, PPC, retargeting and programmatic display advertising, CRO and Paid Social.
  • Strong experience with and/or understanding of SEO is a must.
  • Devise and execute digital marketing strategies to promote the brands multimedia content and event activations.
  • Develop and execute a robust digital marketing strategy around our e-commerce/marketplace offerings.
  • Develop and execute digital marketing strategies with digital marketing agency partners.
  • Lead and manage the execution of affiliate marketing programmes.
  • Acquire new business partners to grow affiliate programmes.
  • Forecast marketing campaign growth and ROI for marketing campaigns
  • Manage email databases as well as devise and execute our email marketing funnel tactics and campaigns.
  • Create and manage link building strategies.
  • Manage and analyse readership data to refine digital marketing campaigns and our editorial offerings.
  • Develop KPIs and monitor success.
  • Highlight, report and present monthly digital marketing performance to the team.
  • Advanced knowledge of social media marketing
  • Advanced knowledge of web strategy and UX to minimise website bounce rates.
  • Research and understand digital marketing trends across key African and Afro-diasporic markets to localise campaigns to improve relevance.
  • You will bring:
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in social media, digital PR, digital marketing or a related role.
  • Prior experience in media, publishing, digital/advertising agency or entertainment field.
  • Strong interest, knowledge and passion for African and Afro-diasporic pop cultures as well as current cultural, political, social and creative trends and affairs across Africa and the African Diaspora.
  • Strong expertise and knowledge of digital advertising, social media management, affiliate marketing and email marketing.
  • Prior experience devising and executing digital marketing strategies for ecommerce and marketplace platforms is a plus
  • Experience with using analytical data to plan, implement and monitor paid search, paid social and programmatic campaigns.
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Google AdWords, YouTube advertising, social media analytics platforms (on-site or through platforms such as Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, Sprout Social etc).
  • Ability to lead and work in a start-up environment.
  • This is a 6 month freelance opportunity starting ASAP with potential to convert to a permanent position after the initial 6 months. For the first 6 months, the successful candidate will be required to work 4 days/ 30 hours per week.
