Development Editor (Macmillan Caribbean)Publisher, SchoolsLondon; up to 6 weeks per year in the market subject to requirementClosing date: September 28th 2021Macmillan Education, part of the Springer Nature group, is a global publisher of English languageteaching (ELT) and school curriculum, digital and online materials. Our publishing is supported by a wealth of educational services, such as teacher training and online learning, which underpin our commitment to deliver the most effective and appropriate educationalresources for education today.The Caribbean team publishes curriculum-based content for the Caribbean and international schools markets. Our lists cover all subjects from pre-primary to upper secondary levels of education, with both print and digital resourcestargeted at individual territories or whole regions.Our International Curriculum Publishing has been recently created for schools following international English language curriculums, in particular where English is not the mother tongue of teachers and students.Werequire a Development Editor to work within the publishing team to develop quality, curriculum-lead content for international markets: You will support the Publisher in developing sound initial product concepts and is responsible for developing these productswith the authors to deliver quality manuscripts to the editorial production team.You also be in collaboration with in-house Sales and Marketing both in the UK and overseas, Production and Design teams, as well as agents, representatives and key stakeholdersin the markets is vital in ensuring that the publishing meets the needs of the key audience and stakeholders.This role provides an opportunity to fully engage with and influence the content and to input in to the look and feel of a product.Objectives: Responsiblefor ensuring authors write to brief and on scheduleWork on the manuscript of components to ensure that they are written to brief and fully aligned with market needs Develop and use specialist knowledge of the Caribbean and international regions to ensure thatresources are pedagogically, culturally and structurally appropriate for the market Oversee freelance development editors, to ensure their work is appropriate and of a high quality Assist in the development of digital platforms functionality Support the Publisherin developing sound product concepts for investment approval Make contacts and develop relationships with key stakeholders such as authors, advisors and sales reps Liaise and foster excellent working relationships with in-house colleagues from across the business.Keytasks: In collaboration with the Publisher, conduct market research required to ensure projects meet market needs - including attending regionally-based focus groups where necessary Support the Publisher in carrying out scoping of projects in order to createproject specification documentation - including content, costs and schedule In collaboration with the Publisher, brief and oversee sample design In collaboration with the Publisher, write clear author briefs Work with and support author teams for the durationof the writing period to ensure that content is written to brief and submitted on time Manage manuscript review process, including finding and briefing reviewers, collating comments and feeding back to author Contribute to the process of authoring and developingdigital resources Run regional development or review workshops to gain feedback on draft manuscripts Participate in market trialling of digital content and platform functionality and acting on feedback Liaise with the Managing Editorial team to facilitatesmooth production of developed manuscripts and ensure original publishing concept is realised - including reviewing and resolving content queries, inputting on photo and artwork selection, and feeding back on proofs Liaise with Marketing and Sales teams onpromotional material/information as requiredTo apply: Please submit a CV and covering letter outlining your experience and interest in the role, as well as your salary expectations and notice period.This role is based in London and all employees are currentlyworking remotely.
