Job Description

18952 Design Engineer (Piping Designer)Our client is seeking a Design Engineer to join them on a contract basis, in London. Our client has a wealth of knowledge and experience providing marine and shipping design services. They are looking for a Design Engineer to join their Mechanical department and work with their expert team.

  • Provide a skilled contribution to the design work for assigned projects and maintain the technical requirements and standard of deliverables required.
  • Share knowledge and experience with colleagues across all disciplines of the company.
  • Actively manage the quality of work produced and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Develop relationships with individual project managers at the client shipyards.
  • Undertake detailed drawing work and engineering design calculations.
  • Ensure all drawings are created to the agreed standard and are adequately checked.
  • Create standard engineering design spreadsheets and integrate new calculation software.
  • Liaise with customers, subcontractors and suppliers where appropriate.
  • Ensure any design changes affecting the contract deliverables are being clearly communicated to the Project Manager.
    • Candidate requirements:
  • Have advanced skills using 2D/3D CAD and creating drawings using Solidworks or Navisworks
  • Ability to produce clear and well-presented drawings and plans to a suitable quality and standard.
  • Able to process technical problems and seek the correct solution.
  • Knowledge of statutory regulations and classifications.
  • Have an understanding of ship systems design and its impact upon integration.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ship structural design as applied to structural arrangements.
  • Excellent communication skills, being able to liaise with colleagues across all disciplines.
  • Good commercial awareness, ensuring work is carried out to the agreed standard.
  • Good MS Office skills, to develop reports and spreadsheets.
