Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Ward Manager (Band 7) to join our Stem Cell Transplantation Unit based at our Duchess of Devonshire Wing (Cancer Centre) in Central London, W1G 6JA (close to Regents Park & Baker Street tube stations).The London Clinic is one of the UK’s largest private hospitals, we have been providing exceptional care since 1932, and we have 8 premises where we perform highly complex procedures as well as routine surgery & medicine. Our main hospital spans 8 floors comprising of 234 beds and 10 theatres, and The Duchess of Devonshire Wing is our award-winning cancer centre, which includes state-of-the-art radiotherapy, chemotherapy suites and 47 dedicated patient bedrooms for Oncology & Haematology patients.Our stem cell transplant unit comprises of 12 beds, and we treat acute leukaemias, lymphomas and other malignant haematology. We are the first private hospital to gain JACIE accreditation and we are also the preferred provider as a stem cell harvesting centre for the Anthony Nolan Trust.Job Description The Deputy Ward Manager will assist the Ward Manager in ensuring the department is efficiently and effectively managed at all times.

  • This is a full time, permanent position, working 37.5 hours a week.
  • The inclusive salary range for this position is £45,259 - £53,614 per annum, depending upon skills and experiences.

  • Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the delivery of the highest standards of care and services.
  • Maintain specialist training and experience in stem cell transplantation as detailed in the FACT-JACIE accreditation standards 7th edition (2018).
  • Act as assessor for all clinical activities, i.e. intravenous, blood transfusion, stem cell infusion, and CAR-T cell infusion.
  • Plan staff duty rotas to ensure economical, effective staff patient allocation whilst being mindful of budgetary constraints.
  • Establish evidence based practice, quality assurance and clinical audit with the Quality Manager, as well as taking the lead in JACIE related audits.
  • Support the Ward Manager in the clinic wide training regarding blood transfusion competencies, as well as upholding the Clinic’s blood transfusion competency assessment register.
  • Skills & Experience
  • Registered General Nurse, with experience working in a Haematology/Oncology setting.
  • Chemotherapy administration, haematology or stem cell transplant module/modules or qualification.
  • Experience of cytotoxic drugs and familiar with common side effects of all transplantation types, autologous, matched sibling, matched unrelated donor transplants and CAR-T cell treatment.
  • To have participated in clinical audit, and familiar with JACIE & transplant accreditation processes.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organisation skills.
