Who were looking for We are looking for a seasoned and highly technical Database SRE Lead to be part of the Infrastructure SRE Global Team and be part of the multi-year cloud transformation program that we have embarked upon. We require someone who has in-depth experience of engineeringand supporting database services on premise as well as public cloud, who has worked with broader technology teams on successful, medium-large scale, cloud migrations or complex infrastructure programmes. We are looking for a passionate database and cloud advocatewho has an excellent understanding of database technologies, development and cloud best practices, industry trends, modern technologies and new ways of working. The team You will be part of the Enterprise Cloud team that is comprised of seven functions. The Cloud Centre of Excellence (CoE) covering Azure Platform SRE, AWS Platform SRE, Cloud Enablement and Cloud Architecture. The Cloud Business Office (CBO) that has remit forcloud technical project management for each of the seven Cloud workstreams. The Global Networks, Communications and Estates IT team manage our global network and voice environment as well as all datacentres globally. The Automation & Tooling team have oversightof automation, monitoring and logging products and services. The Infrastructure Project Management team provide project management functions. The Infrastructure SRE Team is responsible for the global Windows, Unix, Linux, Virtualisation, Database, Container/Kubernetesand Storage/Backup environment for all on premise locations, as well as for IaaS instances in the Cloud. You will lead the Database SRE Team, which is part of Infrastructure SRE, who are subject matter experts for their domain, across the UK, Singapore, US, India, Luxembourg and Switzerland. You will build a high performing team, and engineer and build a bestin class database service offering that is highly available, highly automated with extensive self service capabilities with security at the forefront of your strategy. You will lead a team who work collaboratively with colleagues across the Enterprise Cloudteam and the broader Global Technology function to migrate infrastructure assets and business applications to the Cloud whilst at the same time ensuring that the stability of production applications is not compromised during this transition. You will leada highly technical team who are integral to a successful cloud adoption and migration programme over the coming years. What youll do Global service manager for Database, including SQL, Oracle, Cosmos DB and cloud DB technologies Lead a global multi-locational cross-matrix team in a dynamic environment Drive the strategy and outcome for relational databases both on-prem and in cloud Be a champion of the database SRE function to drive agile delivery and collaboration between teams across regions Drive automation, configuration management and self-service capabilities to reduce manual workload and improve productivity and service Provide guidance and mentoring to team members within database SRE Work closely with other internal teams such as Cloud, Hosting, Application Dev/Support to deliver business outcomes Develop and lead a strategy to build the Database SRE team Develop and build out the Database SRE team with availability, performance, efficiency, automation, monitoring, observability, scalability, security, and simplicity as a key part of your SRE strategy Devise and execute, in conjunction with the Cloud team, a 1 year re-host & PaaS migration and budget reduction strategy Run proof of concepts for new infrastructure services or third party tooling to help with managing IaaS in the Cloud Continuously evolve and enhance database services security posture Devise innovative ideas for solving hard technical problems involving distributed systems, scale and security and translate these ideas into designs and implementation Work with peers across Enterprise Cloud team to understand service enhancement priorities Work closely with development and application support teams to help them through the cloud journey, evaluate and identify new cloud service requirements for PaaS, and work with Cloud CoE and CBO teams to engineer and implement globally Identify, triage, and constantly automate and evolve across Platform Services by pushing for change that improves reliability, operability and user experience Frequently review team productivity and efficiency, looking for further ways to automate TOIL across DB Operations Challenge the norm, and look for new ways of working Engineer and constantly evolve the automation ecosystem Engineer solutions that are fully automated using DevOps infrastructure-as-code and integrated in the CI/CD toolchain Every week solve exciting new challenges with an amazing team and technology stack Employ exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity/application stability Ensure Change The Business (CTB) budget objectives and Run The Business (RTB) budget objectives are met The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need Extensive experience in database support and engineering Must have database infrastructure experience in a large organisation or global MNC Working knowledge of the following Microsoft SQL Server product line Microsoft Always On Availability Group Microsoft SSIS, SSAS & SSRS Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Microsoft SQL Server Data Migration Assistant Database backup and recovery Database monitoring, alerting and self-healing Data and database protection techniques and technologies Database performance tuning Database fleet management and automation framework Azure SQL Server Azure Data Migration Service <b
