Job Description

Database Reliability Engineer opportunity to join a highly successful company providing high-scale PKI and identity and access management (IAM) solutions support the billions of services, devices, people and things comprising the Internet of Everything (IoE).Summary of the roleThe business has an Infrastructure Engineering team based in London and are looking for an outstanding Data Reliability Engineer with a strong DevOps mentality and good Linux skills to join, supporting databases in the companys Data Centres all over theglobe.You must be passionate about squeezing every ounce of performance from your databases - be as comfortable working with SQL Tables as JSON documents, selecting the right tool for each job and optimizing the configuration and schema for the use-case.You "automate the heck out of everything" to help yourself and your fellow colleagues, preventing the need for ever having to work through the same process twice.Salary - up to £85,000 Package + Benefits Job responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Maintenance and ongoing improvement of the existing Linux-based database real-estate, including:
    • Ensuring the presence of monitoring and alerting for proactive issue resolution
    • Scaling and lifecycle management
    • Working directly with the Engineering team on schema changes to support new functionality
    • Stability and performance monitoring and management across all layers of the system.
    • Scheduling and performing updates to ensure the latest security and bug fixes are applied, and new features are made available.
  • Management of data objects throughout the platform, including within message queuing and out-of-band (e.g. logging) systems.
  • Development of tooling and scripts to automate regular tasks.
  • Working with Infrastructure Team to set up one-touch deployment and centralised management of database servers.
  • Research technologies, prototype their use and recommend the optimum solution for a given problem.
  • Work with the Engineering team to identify the best tool for each job, ensuring it is deployed and configured in an optimal and compliant manner.
  • Ensure Disaster Recover procedures are in place and compliant with agreed RTO and RPO objectives. Support disaster recovery and business continuity exercises.
  • Documentation and reporting for reference and compliance.
Skills required Experience managing Linux databases & Persistence stores including Postgres / Mongo / MySQL / ElasticSearchEssentialA degree in a computer science, data related field or equivalent work experienceEssentialA collaborative inclusive working approach both with the team and the wider engineering organisationEssentialStrong Linux knowledge and sysadmin skillsEssentialDevOps Mentality including strong automation skillsEssentialProblem solving and troubleshooting ability and experienceEssentialSpecific experience with our OSs, Packages & tooling e.g. Debian/ Redhat / FreeBSD / Chef / Ansible / Python / Bash / Bamboo/ Jenkins / GitDesirableAWS Knowledge including data storesDesirableAn interest in & an understanding of - Security, PKI, and general regulation around dataDesirableThe company offers fantastic benefits including:
