Job Description

The roleWe are looking for an individual who will be responsible and accountable for overseeing the execution of the firms data protection strategy.To be effective, the DPO will be a trusted business advisor and privacy champion, have strong stakeholder management and influencing skills with the ability to communicate effectively with the highest levels of management so that the needs of the businessare balanced with meeting regulatory and compliance requirements. The Data Protection Officer reports to the Head of Legal Counsel and will provide leadership and advice to a team of data protection SMEs and Managers.The right candidate will perform the statutory and independent role of Data Protection Officer and be responsible and accountable for the provision of strategic advice, planning, and compliance with all aspects of data protection legislation and act as thesubject matter expert for data protection matters including, but not limited to, "Privacy by Design", international transfers and practical implementation of Privacy Management structures.What youll doKey responsibilities in this role will include (but not be limited to):

  • Serves as the responsible person for managing the relationship with the ICO and relevant regulatory bodies and the subject matter expert for all data protection matters for the group.
  • Informs and advises the organisation of its obligations under relevant Data Protection legislation.
  • Drives the agenda and provides strategic advice, direction, planning, and execution on all data management and data protection-related matters to relevant committees, including preparing board papers and presentations
  • Monitors compliance with relevant Data Protection laws and regulations and in doing so provides metrics and reporting on data privacy internally and the effectiveness of the internal privacy program.
  • Supports and advises on data protection risk assessments including data protection impact assessments/legitimate interest assessments, and contract clauses with our suppliers, partners, and customers.
  • Serves as the point of escalation for personal data governance & compliance and works closely with functional and development leads to ensure regulatory compliance and best practice, demonstrating expertise in relevant data protection laws and regulations.
  • Ensures that the company maintains appropriate records to demonstrate the principle of accountability under Data Protection legislation
  • Devises, supports, and delivers appropriate training and awareness-raising for all staff on privacy and data protection.
What youll need
  • Experience of working in a strategic leadership DPO role in a commercially focussed organisation.
  • An expert in data protection laws and legislation and the ability to apply the principles in a business context.
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional CIPP/E.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and managing personal data governance models.
  • Experience of working in a technology-focused company which would ideally be a fin-tech or other technology-based start-up.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
