With a deep understanding of the systems, data and the business context, you will apply tools and techniquesfor data ingestion, storage, transformation and egress across multiple sources. You will work closely with data analysts to help improve business insights while generally helping us to become more scalable and data-driven.Responsibilities as a Data Engineer

  • Build high quality working relationships
  • Collaborate with GST colleagues, particularly in the Technology, Operations and Data & Analytics teams to provide great service
  • Proactively support customers with clear communication and regular progress updates
Work with the data services team to:
  • Design, implement and maintain data warehouses, data models and data ingestion tools
  • Help to devise and maintain data architecture standards and guidelines
  • Implement data schema designs, ETL workflows and other data centric processes
  • Provide data availability support for reporting requirements across broking platforms including Global XB, XII, UniQuote (ClarionDoor) and internal systems (M365)
  • Provide technical direction and frameworks to meet our data availability needs
  • Provide expertise and support for problem tickets and incidents through to major technology initiatives
  • Collaborate with engineering, development and product teams to understand and develop technology solutions that are data first
  • Evaluate emerging technologies against business and technology strategic needs
  • Help to ensure the data is fit for purpose (considering accuracy, completeness, consistency and other relevant factors)
  • Identify areas where data can better be used to benefit us
  • Identify where improved data quality and consistency will benefit us
  • Undertake any other responsibilities as necessary
Working with trading and GST colleagues, develop and maintain a deep understanding of the data & analytics landscape, including:
  • Sources, storage, architecture
  • Data elements, data dictionary, data models
  • Accuracy, quality, completeness
  • Systems, business and market context
  • The flow of data through processes
  • Reports and Power BI suites
  • Project (improvement) workstreams

  • Competent with MS SQL Server 2012 - 2019 and Azure SQL, including analysis, reporting and integration services
  • Knowledge of Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Knowledge of T-SQL, XML, JSON, APIs, VB, VB.Net, C#.Net
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Power Query, DAX and similar tools is desirable
  • Understanding of Active Directory
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and Azure DevOps (formerly MS Team Foundation Server)
