Job Description

Cyber Security Manager (SC Cleared)Contract Length: 6 monthsLocation: 1–2 days per week in London or YorkPay Rate to Candidate: GBP850 – Inside IR35Security Clearance: SC activeResponsible for operational security and assisting with the design, implementation and development security controls and systems. Ensure that incidents are detected, prioritised, investigated, contained, remediated and that operational security controls aremeasured and constantly improved. Continually evaluate, review and advise on current developments in all areas of cyber security and cyber threats; Apply appropriate security controls to all hardware and software assets. Proactively monitor networks and systemsfor evidence of potential threats. Lead response activities to minimise the impact of cyber incidents, including technical investigation into the root cause and extent of any damage. Deliver awareness training on cyber security standards, policies and bestpractices. Ensure remediation work identified by IT Health Checks and Audits is undertaken. Provide constant review and improvement of cyber security policies, best practice and implementation.Typical skills:

  • Proven ability to identify, investigate and remediate complex cyber security issues
  • Firewall and network security
  • Experience working with one or more cloud environment
  • An understanding of key attacker techniques and capabilities models; and the various Cyber Kill Chain frameworks
  • Experience in securing cloud platform; Encryption
  • Knowledge in threat modelling and ethical hacking
  • Extensive experience working with SIEM solutions
  • Basic experience in some Scripting languages
The Cyber Manager deals with security matters in relation to information Systems used by CPS. Technological and commercial developments mean that cloud–based services are used that require Departmental Security Unit (DSU) to understand and configure softwareat a detailed level. The Cyber Manager will take a lead role for specific systems, some very major eg Office365.This is a specialist role requiring the Cyber Manager to make considered assessments about risks involved and business benefits achievable and take action accordingly. The role will also be responsible for reporting on Internet–based threats, engaging withthe business to develop an efficient and safe CPS cyber culture.As a member of the Departmental Security Unit, the post–holder will assist with the implementation and maintenance of personnel security, physical security, and information security standards within the CPS, including Information Assurance reporting and compliancemonitoring and assisting the Departmental Security Officer (DSO) with integrity and leak investigations.Meet the challenges of complex security and information handling controls and functionality within cloud–based services. Having developed system knowledge and an understanding of business requirements, develop proposals for security and data handling relatedconfiguration settings.Take carefully managed risks. The post–holders work may have a day to day to impact on the work of all other CPS employees, so these must be carefully planned, and their impact assessed.Through proactive research and analysis, they will identify potential security risks and issues associated with functionality within applications, particularly those provided from cloud based services. Provide a range of options for resolution for the considerationof the Senior Cyber Manager and Deputy Departmental Security Officer.Develop understanding of forensic related functionality and provide proposals to implement appropriate configuration to meet requirements as outlined in forensic readiness policy. Investigate ways to improve use of complex systems to efficiently deliver effectivesecurity.
