Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join LBGs Real Estate & Housing Credit team as a Credit Officer.RE&H Credit is primarily responsible for conducting credit assessment, monitoring, and credit portfolio management for all prospective and existing clients operating within the RE&H sector. The team partners directly with the Corporate & Institutional Banking("CIB") business to help drive revenue growth whilst maintaining an appropriate risk appetite to limit credit losses. As a Credit Officer, you will play a leading role in helping the team meet its objectives.Responsibilities: Roles at this level are typically for experienced professionals and/or operational line managers. On any given day, a Credit Officer can look forward to a variety of work such as:

  • Taking a leading role in discussions with originators, relationship managers, and product partners as well as Senior Sanctioners to shape credit proposals, set credit risk appetite, and to maintain a balance of risk and reward.
  • Identifying and evaluating complex financing proposals to find the ones that best meet the needs of the client, and which provide the bank with appropriate protection.
  • Writing comprehensive credit submissions for new and existing borrowers that are reviewed by a variety of senior stakeholders, tailoring the tone and content to match the needs and expectations of each audience.
  • Performing oversight of financial modelling and forecasts received from clients and/or produced by the business or Senior Credit Analysts. Derivation and interpretation of appropriate financial sensitivities to test credit quality of prospective borrowers.
  • Maintaining robust knowledge of internal credit rating methodologies and recommending ratings to Senior Sanctioners for new and existing clients.
  • Proactively monitoring the performance of the existing portfolio, communicating any emerging risks to senior management and other colleagues as appropriate, as well as ensuring compliance with LBG and regulatory policy.
  • Partnering with key team members to undertake periodic sector reviews aimed at identifying potential areas of weakness as well as opportunity.
  • Coaching colleagues including direct reports and providing specialist training for colleagues throughout the organisation.
  • Proactively identifying and leading a wide variety of projects to improve processes and ways of working - helping to transition the team into a risk function of the future.
  • Leading credit focused meetings with external clients as well as internal team members.

  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable high levels of attention to detail, numeracy, and accuracy.
  • Strong influencing skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels and across different audiences, with strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple requests and competing demands.
  • Good product knowledge of lending and derivatives.
  • An inquisitive nature, independent thinking, adaptability to new challenges and a willingness to learn.
  • An existing understanding of financial modelling.
