Job Description

About usAvencia Consulting are recruiting on behalf of a global provider of Specialty, Bespoke and Reinsurance, based in the City, who are looking to hire a Credit Control Manager to join. The Company currently writes lines of business including; speciality insurance: aviation & aerospace, energy, marine, property, credit & political risk, and other speciality; reinsurance: property reinsurance, property retrocession, speciality reinsurance,whole account/multi-class.The role

  • Ensure all credit control related operations and processes are being performed in a timely, effective and efficient manner with evidence
  • Liaise with entity CUOs and CFOs with respect to credit control matters and escalation of exceptional
  • Ensure that all credit control reporting, both internal and external, is prepared on a timely and consistent basis and that full liaison is maintained with all internal departments and external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the credit control team complies with internal and external standards and regulatory requirements as
  • Provide a focal point for credit control matters for both internal and external parties including finance, operations, underwriting, brokers, insureds, reinsurers, etc.

Key accountabilities
  • Planning, Execution & Decision Making:
    • Strategic planning - set team priorities, short and long term, in accordance with the strategy and ensure these are clearly communicated both upwards and downwards.
    • Resourcing - ensure your team is adequately resourced to execute team and individual objectives. This may be via upskilling current staff, recruiting new roles, implementing systems, outsourcing or through inventive solutions to shorter term requirements.
    • Delegation - ensure work is distributed effectively amongst your team whilst maintaining an appropriate level of oversight and retaining ultimate accountability.
  • Leadership & Communication
    • Performance management - ensure expectations are clearly set and understood. Hold regular 1:1s to provide feedback (both your own and from appropriate stakeholders), praise good performance and promptly address poor performance.
    • Career development planning - support and encourage personal and professional development of team members both to aid retention and to ensure the team is adequately skilled for future requirements.
    • Motivation and engagement - proactively support and monitor the engagement and wellbeing of team members; keep abreast of the benefits and resources that the company provides; encourage team members to utilise them; and escalate any concerns to HR.
  • Compliance & controls
    • Compliance - be accountable for yourself and your teams adherence to policies and procedures, taking proactive steps to ensure a risk-based approach to good governance, and ensuring any concerns or more formally identified issues (e.g., internal auditpoints) are addressed in a timely manner.
    • Fiscal Control - ensure you and your team are financially conscious, embedding a culture of good fiscal management, sound budgeting and cost control (evaluating return on investment/value to the business).
Skills & experience
  • A professional accounting qualification (CA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years post qualification experience preferably gained in an insurance/reinsurance operations environment
  • Working knowledge of the Xchanging messaging service and Insurance Tax (IPT)
  • Working knowledge and experience of US GAAP or IFRS for insurance accounting
  • Knowledge of relevant accounting software (previous experience with Oracle and SAP Concur preferred but not required)
  • Ability to supervise, motivate and control the work of a small team, including performance reviews and identifying and meeting training needs
  • Ability to work effectively as part of the wider finance team and collaborate with other key stakeholders across different functions within the organization
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of applications with advanced Excel skills
  • Ability and willingness to work extended working hours and weekends as needed
