Job Description

Our client is a Beauty Retailer based in Berkshire that has an opportunity for a Design leadThis role has two core remits. One is centered around design and the delivery of creative and artworking services across the brand, working with stakeholders to support the delivery of the marketing roadmap.The role will continually raise the bar on creativity, taking a brief and delivering inspiring and exciting solutions to attract our target audiences. This involves communicating across multiple channels, including print and digital (website and social media).They will act as brand custodians; ensuring that all communications are created and produced in-line with brand guidelines.The second element of the role is allocation and project management of activity and mentoring within the design studio. Working closely with the Creative Services Manager they will ensure briefs are allocated and managed via the most efficient process. Theywill also support deeper in the education and completion of the briefing process, influencing brand and campaign designs to help drive engagement, sales and profit. They will be on hand to mentor and coach the designers, artworkers and videographers to supporttheir ongoing development. They will create an environment of collaboration within and across teams.Day to Day duties

  • Take an active part in briefing processes alongside the Creative Services Manager to ensure briefs are well crafted and requirements clearly understood
  • Conduct user journey planning where required to help stakeholders identify opportunities to maximise engagement
  • Lead the allocation of briefs across the team ensuring skills and engagement is maximised
  • Oversee workflow and track team projects from brief to delivery to ensure projects are delivered on time
  • Conduct quality control of selected projects providing constructive feedback and pre-proof support
  • Ensure project management software is utilised to its fullest potential
  • Support Creative Services Manager with process improvement across the team, ensuring ideas and opportunities are exploited and put into practice.
Graphic & Digital Design & creation
  • Delivery of creative and art working services (internal & external)
  • Provide stakeholder support where necessary on the creation and process of briefing
  • Work with allocated briefs and translate to design concepts
  • Communicate & present design drafts. Setting the overall tone and style of creative campaigns for others to take inspiration from
  • Creation of designs and assets to support campaign and promotional activity, working with internal and external partners
  • Production of visually appealing and on-brand content packages
  • Offer guidance and support on overall creative direction
  • Influencing the business and seeking new ways of presenting products, brands and campaigns to enhance customer engagement, always looking for ways to improve
  • Lead the development of a set of channel templates that create consistency across all communications
  • On occasion you may be required to handover creative to outsource partners whereby you will monitor application, progress and offer advice
Photography & Animation
  • Provide photography and art direction services
  • Capture event imagery to use in marketing and education materials, social media, online and for reference purposes
  • Editing & retouching of imagery
  • Creating & editing video/animation
Brand guidelines
  • In conjunction with the Creative Services Manager, support in maintaining and developing all brand guidelines
  • Ensure that all communications reflect the brand positively and accurately.
Team Management Support
  • Support the Creative Services Manager with day-to-day team management and allocation of work.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring, coaching and support across the team
  • Lead team collaboration to generate new ideas, and review learnings.
  • Deputising for Creative Services Manager when necessary
  • Review effectiveness of creatives produced by team to support in identifying ways to improve
Experience/skills required
  • Substantial experience in printed & digital design (both B2C and B2B)
  • A demonstrable interest in and understanding of design trends, best practices and usability principles
  • Experience of translating creative briefs to design concepts
  • Tenacious attention to detail and highly organised
  • Able to create new processes and adapt within a growing department
  • Ability to manage time effectively, working to and delivering against deadlines on multiple briefs
  • Ability to challenge when standards and communication are not good enough
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Results orientated, with a genuine interest in customer engagement of designs
  • Must be able to make informed decisions and take own initiative
  • Self-motivated with a creative and independent mind-set, while still working within a team environment and fostering team collaboration
  • Excellent understanding of our brands and their personalities and values
  • Confidently can work across functions with multiple people at various levels
  • Receptiveness and proactive in sourcing and building upon feedback
  • Ability to coach and teach skills to others
  • Interest in the industry strongly desirable
Essential:
  • BA Hons in Design - or similar related subject
  • Mac literate with excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, After Effects and Premiere
  • Thorough knowledge of the Microsoft Office Products, including PowerPoint and Word
  • Experience of Design in a commercial environment
Desirable:
  • Interest and competence in photography
  • Experience of managing creative teams
  • HTML and responsive web design desirable
  • Able to film and edit footage
