Job Description

HIV Liaison Consultant – Part time 7 sessions (26.25 hours per week)About the team:The HIV Liaison Service, is a small multi-disciplinary team, comprising consultant psychiatrist, mental health nursing and psychology and psychotherapy therapy staff. The service assists both mental health services and HIV services to support people who are living with HIV and a significant mental health problem.We provide liaison, assessment and treatment and short to medium term psychological work for people whose mental health problems are related to living with HIV.Our service covers the London Boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. Our approach is largely bio-psycho-social. We embrace diversity and tackle stigma.We provide advice, training and liaison work to statutory and non-statutory mental and physical health care services in the Boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham.About the role:This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed part-time consultant psychiatrist to work in a specialist HIV mental liaison health team, providing flexible clinical leadership and consultant responsibility and working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team.The postholder will need to demonstrate a holistic approach with regards to HIV and mental health, whilst keeping up-to-date with the latest HIV research and treatment, and have experience of working with diverse and sometimes marginalised client groups. The post lends itself to those with a special interest spanning transcultural psychiatry, neuropsychiatry as well as Addictions.The post holder will provide mental health liaison, assessment, treatment and short term support for clients with complex mental health issues relating to living with HIV. This will include contributing to and providing advice during regular MDT meetings across LSL with other HIV healthcare professionals. Our main referrers are HIV clinics, medical inpatient wards, mental health community teams and addiction services.About the location:The service currently has an office team base at Lambeth Hospital, Landor Road, SW9 9NT. Pre-COVID clients were mainly seen in Outpatient settings both at Maudsley and Lambeth Hospitals, as well as in physical healthcare and inpatient settings as necessary. Where and when appropriate clients can also be seen in their own home.Our Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2).
