Consultant in Public Health Medicine witha special interest in Health Protection - Health Service ExecutiveIrelands Public Health Service has embarked on aprogramme of strategic structural reform to implement an enhanced,consultant-delivered model ofservice delivery aligned to international bestpractice. The new model will radically change the governance and operatingstructure within the Health Service Executive (HSE) Public Health function,establish strong clinical leadership across each of the domainsof PublicHealth practice, and strategically align the service to contribute effectivelyto major service design, policy implementation, reduction in inequalities andimprovements in health. Consultants in Public Health Medicine witha special interest in HealthProtection (18 WTE) will be appointed across thesix Public Health Areas and will have responsibility for providing consultantdelivered Health Protection services across all hazards by protecting andimproving the health of the Irish population within the assignedgeographicarea. They will lead multidisciplinary teams and provide national clinicalleadership to defined threat programmes for the integrated service, workingacross Infectious Diseases, Environment and Health and Emergency Preparednessand Response in eacharea. The appointed candidates will be employedas a Medical Consultant and must be registered as a Specialist with the IrishMedical Council in the Specialty of Public Health Medicine within 180 days ofinterview.
