The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) is the independent regulator of most newspapers and magazines in the UK. We are recruiting a Complaints Officer to join our complaints handling team.This is a role for someone who is articulate and efficient,with excellent communication and analytical skills, and an intelligent interest the press and how it is regulated. You might also have experience of handling complaints, preparing analysis of complex information, or dealing sensitively with members of thepublic in a professional capacity and will hold at least a 2:1 degree (or be educated to an equivalent standard).The role benefits from a well-structured and stimulating programme of progression. You will be supported to develop outstanding analytical, communication(verbal and written), mediation and investigation skills. Starting with drafting responses to complaints that raise no potential breach of the Editors Code, the successful candidate will progress to investigating complaints, drafting rulings for externalpublication, and mediating between complainants and publications.You will also be trained to staff, on a rota basis, IPSOs pre-publication and privacy notice services, which provide 24-hour confidential advice to editors and journalists on matters relatingto the Editors Code and protect members of the public and public figures from potential intrusion and unwanted press attention.There is a competitive starting salary of £29,000-31,000 plus youll receive an additional £1,000 on-call allowance. Salary increasesare guaranteed as you gain experience, with an additional £1,000 pay increase at the end of six months, then £1,000 more at the end of the first, second and third years in post.
