Peabody has an exciting opportunity for a Community Development Worker, based in Waltham Forest. You will join us ona full time, permanent basis in return you will receive acompetitive salary of £28,000 - £31,000 per annum.As our Community Development Worker you will lead on do you have experience community engagement and consultation with our residents across the borough, but particularly on the Chingford Hall estate where we are focusing our work with families. We have a busy and vibrant community centre on the estate and some established community groups. The key focus will be outreach and communications across this estate, supporting new groups, building on peer support networks and ensuring the voice of residents guides everything we do.The post holder will be based in our offices on the Chingford Hall estate, with some travel to other Peabody community buildings and offices around the borough. They will join an experienced team of youth workers as well as a wider housing team in Waltham Forest, including neighbourhood managers, welfare benefit advisers and revenues officers.Responsibilities of our Community Development Worker include:- Support, mentor and build the capacity of community groups, to work with Peabody colleagues to develop peer-led initiatives and peer support networks for residents. You lead on consultations with local people of all ages about their priorities and feed this effectively into the development of team plans.- You will ensure residents are involved in decision making within the Children’s Community/Waltham Forest Community Team at all levels.- Support and supervise volunteers.- Take a lead on local events.- Carry out outreach and lead on communications with residents through door knocking, newsletters and social media.- Identify gaps and opportunities in local provision and support the creation of new projects in these areas, in line with the Pembury Children’s Community/Waltham Forest strategy and resident priorities.- Create links and partnerships with voluntary organisations and a wide range of stakeholders in Hackney or Waltham Forest.- Work effectively with other Peabody colleagues so that we deliver ‘joined up’ services.- Update and maintain all project records and complete the required paperwork needed by external funders and for internal monitoring purposes.- Monitor, evaluate and analyse the effectiveness of community development projects.What we’re looking for in our Community Development Worker:- A track record of success in previous community development roles focused on building on community assets and developing community led initiatives- A track record of running do you have experience of running successful community events and activities- A track record of designing and delivering projects- Experience of supporting and supervising volunteers- An ability to communicate well with people of all ages and backgrounds; strong written communication skills- An ability to manage conflict and be diplomatic- An accountable mindset, self-motivated and able to take responsibility for own work- Be flexible to a demanding workload which may result in working antisocial hours- Facilitation and mentoring skills- Intermediate IT skills including Word and ExcelDesirable:- Experience of providing direct capacity building training to residents and community groups, and training relating to the setting up and running of organisations and projects- Knowledge of Waltham ForestClosing date: 12thFebruary 2020If you feel have the skills and experience to become our Community Development Worker, please click ‘apply’ now to be directed to our careers page and complete your application.
