Job Description

An innovative materials business is currently recruiting for a Colour Chemist to join its team based in Central London, on a permanent basis. This is a rare and exciting opportunity, to join a forward-thinking business and work alongside well-known/credible Scientists within this industry. As Colour Chemist, you will take a leadership stance on collaborating team members and delivering unique colour chemistry R&D projects.Responsibilities

  • Colour chemistry lead, working in collaboration with project team members to plan and deliver the R&D for a unique colour chemistry project.
  • Develop, modify and test novel organic dyes and stains for their compatibility in formulations, tailoring their properties for optimum performance
  • Work daily in the lab, being proactive in performing laboratory experiments and taking initiative to solve lab-based problems
  • Follow project plans to time and to budget, playing a crucial role in the delivery of a new technology area for the business
  • Reporting to the wider project team on a regular basis
  • Actively contribute new ideas for internal innovation centred on new commercial products
  • Requirements
  • PhD level qualification in Chemistry coupled with a focus in organic heterocycle or colour chemistry.
  • Industrial experience in the evaluation and use of organic dyes and novel colourants - an ink development background with sound colour chemistry understanding will be accepted.
  • Strong understanding of how functional organic dyes and stains work (ideally in biological applications) and how they interact with other materials
  • Enthusiasm for lab work, analysis and testing
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team to meet deadlines
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cross-functional working ability
  • Proactive in the organisation and reporting of experimental data
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
