The post will be supported through the psychology services provided by East London Foundation NHS Trust in secondary care within the borough.Any Clinical Psychologist knows the impact they can have on real world problems. This new role in the heart of the Hackney Integrated Gangs Unit (IGU) tackles a very high profile one – as you’ll work with members of and people linked to gangs who are suffering from mental health and trauma. This is work that requires a genuine qualitative approach and the freedom to develop an approach that literally saves lives. So you’ll have a manageable caseload with strict maximum limits.Day-to-day, expect to work with all the key players – police, probation and youth offender services, mental health colleagues and statutory, third sector and housing organisations. You’ll also contribute to our other major projects and initiatives as a topic expert, and train members of the IGU team.Resilience, objectivity and a genuine strength of character is obviously essential. However, it’s your innovation as a practicing clinical psychologist that will be key.In fact, as a BPS-accredited Postgraduate Doctor in Clinical Psychology, you’ll need a deep understanding of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology models – in particular trauma informed practices – and experience of multiple psychological therapies as a researcher and from supervised clinical placements (ideally around lifespan developmental psychology and mental health).A naturally influential figure with a passion for broadening and deepening their skills, you’ll also be keen to employ new ideas and different techniques as you shape the IGU approach to the challenge, and make a positive difference on Hackney’s streets.Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud. The recruitment process is anonymous. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs.When applying, there will be a number of questions relating to the post on the application form. It is essential that you complete the application questions, responding to each using examples of your skills, knowledge and experience.Closing date for applications: 13 December 2020Interview date: TBCWe are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.
