You will bring your passion for clinical coding and apply your skills in an agile environment. We are looking for a post holder that is excited about broadening their SNOMED CT exposure and its interaction with established classification and novel coding systems. The post holder will report to the Head of Clinical Product and work closely with clinicians, product managers, data analysts, data engineers, and administrative teams. This is your chance to drive our clinical coding agenda and spearhead its development across our organisation. The post holder will join a team of dynamic individuals that are passionate about delivering innovative and effective health care.The key tasks in your new and exciting role with us:

  • Apply detailed knowledge of medical terminology, anatomical and physiological terms
  • Follow and develop locally defined coding rules and update and maintain clinical coding policies
  • Extract information from all types of clinical documentation and assess relevant health record content
  • Interrogate information and ask appropriate questions to resolve queries
  • Consistently apply correct coding to a range of typical case notes and more complex scenarios
  • Attend clinical/management meetings to discuss complex coding rules and guidelines
  • Develop and lead regular monthly peer coding audits and reviews
  • Help drive a process of continual change and education within the business regarding the importance of coding and its benefits
  • Liaise with medical/clerical staff to locate any outstanding uncoded episodes and/or the information required to code them
  • Provide advice and support on coding issues to wider stakeholders
  • Hopefully a description of you and your experience!:
  • Possess the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) UK and attendance of a Clinical Coding Refresher Training Course every 3 years, where applicable
  • Experienced in clinical coding for a wide range of specialties
  • An understanding of the structure and content of SNOMED CT
  • An awareness of the structural differences between a terminology and a classification and how a terminology and classification fulfil different purposes
  • Experienced in working between SNOMED CT and the ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classification maps
  • Excellent communication skills and a flexible attitude, with experience of working with a broad range of coding classifications and terminologies
  • Skilled in carrying out clinical coding, processing of workflow documents and various administration duties related to the accurate coding of clinical information
  • Ensure strict confidentiality when handling patient notes and information
