Job Description

Background The J.P. Morgan Development Finance Institution ("JPM DFI") was launched in January 2020 to grow the firms development finance activities and mobilize private capital in the emerging markets. The JPM DFI utilizes its anticipated development impact methodology to (i) assess how securities and derivatives originated and structured by the Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB) qualify transactions as development finance; and (ii) distribute such transactions to investors seeking assets with measurable development impact. The JPM DFI team seeks to position JP Morgan as the pre-eminent commercial institution involved in development finance. Structure The Director of Development Finance & Mobilization will report directly to the head of the JP Morgan DFI and will be responsible for the teams distribution and syndication functions as well as supporting pipeline development and project structuring. The JPM DFI is housed in the Global Corporate Bank and reports to the Global Head of Public Sector and Infrastructure Finance & Advisory Group, who chairs the DFIs internal governance committee. Core Responsibilities for the Director of Development Finance: Distribution of DFI-qualified transactions Develop and maintain active engagement with EM-focused institutional investors (asset managers, pensions, sovereign wealth funds) with interest in deploying capital to assets with measurable impact; Work in partnership with the JPM syndicate desks to market DFI-qualified transactions to these investors; including the creating and disseminating of sales materials. Nurturing and maintaining strong relationships to bilateral and multilateral development banks and sources of official development assistance in order to understand their: Origination and execution practices, including their priorities and their constraints Appetite and interest in engaging in transactions as an investor Ability to deploy risk mitigation products (e.g., guarantees) to JP Morgan originated transactions Building Development Finance as an Asset Class Working in partnership with the sales and ICM teams, engage in strategic dialogues with Chief Investment Officers (CIOs) of strategic investors to understand their requirements for launching fund strategies with a focus on SDGs/development finance Understanding the investment strategies of portfolio managers, including their geographic emphasis, sectoral priorities, and impact themes Sharing the JPM DFI methodology and process, promoting our approach as a market standard Establishing strong relationships with JPM coverage and product desks / bankers for whom the JPM DFI and its offerings are relevant; Identify and cultivate sources of blended finance willing to deploy concessional capital to JPM DFI-qualified transactions Providing JPM colleagues investor sentiment and market tends for development finance-focused issuer and borrower risks Working with internal teams and external partners on development finance origination platforms Contributing to discussions and decisions about the DFIs strategy and operations Representing the JPM DFI in internal and external fora, as well as presentations with clients Qualifications: 10+ years of professional experience in investment banking, structuring, syndication or emerging market sales functions; experience within an existing development finance organization a plus Bachelor degree in business administration, finance, economics, international development, or other related fields; graduate degrees preferred but not required Ability to support coverage and product teams with the origination and structuring of key products relevant to development finance, in particular, debt capital markets, bilateral and syndicated loans, M&A advisory, structured trade, derivatives, structured and securitized products, and project finance Ability to support sales and syndicate teams with investor marketing and distribution Flexibility to travel Ability to navigate across large organizations to get things done and broker information across the firm; ability to form strong partnerships and work in environments where there are multiple, over-lapping stakeholders Personal integrity, initiative and leadership qualities Excellent (English) written and oral communication skills
