Job PurposeWe are seeking an economist to provide macroeconomic analysis to the Head of Macroeconomic Research on Emerging markets, particularly focusing on China, with expectations that the individual will grow into a role to take full responsibility of forecastingthe outlook for China and provide advice to fund managers, clients and mediaTeam OverviewThis is an opportunity to join a broad and dynamic macroeconomic research team and to immediately contribute for an economist with experience covering the Chinese economy and wishing to grow their career at a large European asset manager. The role will bereporting directly to the Head of Macroeconomic research and working closely with the Chief Economist as part of a multi-jurisdictional economics team. The position will immediately include exposure to a range of investment and sales teams, including significantinteraction with senior staff in AXA IMs flat management structures. Focusing on China, the role will reflect the visibility of Chinas importance in the global economy and will help assess the longer-term impact of structural and geo-political developmentsof its impact on the global economy and financial markets.Key Accountabilities

• Provide macroeconomic analysis primarily on the Chinese economy, including monitoring key economic data and constructing economic models.
• Working with the macroeconomic research team, to form and maintain regularly updated forecasts and scenarios for key cyclical and structural economic variables - including GDP, inflation, unemployment and central bank policy.
• To communicate clear and precise economic advice to internal and external stakeholders, clients and the media, acting as a positive ambassador for AXA IM at all times
• The role will immediately see exposure to a range of investment and sales teams and with AXA IMs flat management structure will involve significant interaction with senior staff.
• To write broader, thematic and thought leadership research over aspects of the Chinese outlook and its impact on the broader global economy and financial markets

Education & Qualifications

• A minimum of Masters in Economics or similar disciplines

Experience

• Demonstrable and relevant work experience covering the Chinese economy, ideally working for a government institution, central bank, or financial institution

• Having a passion to understand and explain the workings of macroeconomies and how they impact financial markets
• Display an enthusiasm to build on current knowledge, learn and apply new skills and grow into the role of economist
• Ability to engage with others and enjoy working in a team
• Versatility to operate in a dynamic field, a fast-paced organization and to tight deadlines
• Should be self-motivated and be able to work alone with high attention to detail.
• Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate technical analysis to non-experts. Examples of written communication to be included.
• Chinese language skills are essential (written and spoken)
• Fluent English (written and spoken)
• Must have extensive skills in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel; knowledge of EViews an advantage, as would be experience in using Bloomberg/Refinitiv and financial data providers
