Job Description

The roleProcess and analyse natural catastrophe risk information for insurance and reinsurance underwriting and portfolio risk assessment. This includes supporting underwriting pricing and access to information, and supporting regular portfolio data developmentand analysis procedures.Key accountabilities

  • Provide catastrophe modelling support for pricing and risk selection purposes in a timely fashion for Insurance and Reinsurance underwriting teams.
  • Maintain up to date exposure information, helping the CRM manager to undertake monthly portfolio level analysis for individual teams, change analysis on individual portfolios, key account analysis, and reporting the outcome back to individual underwritingteams.
  • Work closely with global CRM analysts include collaborating and reviewing analysis work undertaken by others.
  • Liaise closely with underwriting teams on all catastrophe risk management issues. This will involve working mainly with underwriters based in other offices.
  • Prepare exposure and loss data for regulatory and outwards reinsurance reports as required.
  • Provide modelling expertise and training to junior members of the team.
  • Prepare procedural documents for existing processes.
Skills & experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in catastrophe risk management.
  • Treaty modelling and insurance modelling experience desirable.
  • Additional professional and/or natural catastrophe risk management qualifications beneficial.
  • Must be proficient user of at least one leading vendor catastrophe modelling package
  • Ideally strong knowledge of other packages
  • Able to process and analyse natural catastrophe risk information to support insurance and reinsurance underwriting and portfolio risk assessment
  • Good or very good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, Database and Internet software. RDBMS experience. Very good knowledge of SQL including use of views, complex queries and stored procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of Re/Insurance industry, and/or clients
  • Expert knowledge of reinsurance and insurance products
  • Good general background knowledge of natural hazards
  • Expert knowledge of vendor models - including maintaining an awareness of best practice and new modelling techniques and approaches. Knowledge of creating and extracting detailed output to identify risk drivers and conduct sensitivity tests. Able to understandreasons for differences between models in a given peril region.
  • Able to build strong relationships with business units to help them identify, prioritise and monitor significant cat risk exposures.
  • Able to liaise with relevant internal and external groups (e.g. IT, vendor modelling companies) to establish, support and maintain business relationships and organisational effectiveness.
  • Able to manage workload by prioritising effectively, ensuring deadlines are met and CRM management is informed of potential issues before they arise.
