Job Description

We are currently seeking an Caretaker within a residential development based in South East London, Charlton/Woolwich area.The hours of work are Mon-Thurs - 0900 to 1500 & Fri - 0900-1300 at the hourly rate of £11.50-11.95 per hour.

  • Collect all loose rubbish from ground (front & rear), paths and porches.
  • Check bin stores and rotate bins daily
  • Patrol the building at the beginning and end of your shift the morning and evening - and various intervals during the day. Inspecting for cleanliness, repair and security.
  • Inspect all common parts, replace light bulbs where necessary.
  • Monitor car parking. Noting unauthorised vehicles, take appropriate action.
  • Patrol external areas - check possible areas for vagrants.
  • Check carpets and vacuum as necessary, ensure entrances and staircases are clean at all times.
  • Inspect common areas for any obstructions or hazards and ensure appropriate action to remedy.
  • Clean glass/mirrors within lift carriages.
  • To check the operation of the lift and report any faults.
  • Ensure passenger lifts are thoroughly cleaned (buttons, ledges, floors).
  • Wipe any light marks from the walls in the entrance, hallway and stairwells.
  • Visual inspection of all drains and gutters (including roof area) to ensure they are free from rubbish/debris/obstruction.
  • Check locks of all communal doors and gates to ensure fully function.
  • Sweep external terrace area/surround of building, including external metal work & louvers (hose/wash down where necessary.)
  • Ensure refused chute not blocked.
  • To be courteous and helpful to all resident as well as to residents staff and guests and to contractors employed by the residents of the building.
  • Prepare and keep and inventory of all tools and equipment on site. To generally maintain records of supplies for the building in a well organised way, ensuring that an appropriate quantity are always available.
  • Clear footpaths and steps of snow and ice in adverse conditions.
  • Regular testing of smoke/fire alarms, emergency lights
  • Be aware of any unusual damage (e.g. Possible break-in) and report to Managing Agent and/or a member of the board immediately.
  • Carry out maintenance work around the development.
  • Conduct routine painting and decorating of the communal areas as directed by senior management.
  • Light plumbing work as and when required. Bleeding radiators.
  • Mowing the lawns of the development.
  • To be flexible and undertake duties, within reason, as required by the Managing Agents and/or the board.
Candidates with a gardening and all-round maintenance background are desired
