Job Description

Overview Plastic Energy is at the forefront of converting non-recyclable "End-of-Life" plastics waste into high grade oils for making clean recycled plastics. Our company mission is to play a significant role in solving the global plastic problem, and to be world leaders in chemical recycling.We promote the concept of a Circular Economy of plastics, and we use a patented Thermal Anaerobic Conversion (TAC) technology to convert end-of-life and valueless plastics into a product known as TACOIL, which chemical/petrochemical companies can transform back into food-grade recycled plastics.Plastic Energy has established offices in London and Madrid, and regional offices in Singapore and Malaysia. We currently own two chemical recycling plants in Spain operating at commercial scale, new projects underway in Western Europe, and developments defined in South East Asia.Our engineering department is expanding in order to meet the demands of our growing business, and we are now looking for a CAD Drafting Technician with experience in a process plant design environment to join our team.We are seeking a candidate with at least three years’ experience, and who has the capability and confidence to hit the ground running, whilst being fully supported as you settle in and learn about our plant designs. We are looking for candidates who have experience ideally in both mechanical and electrical drafting, as we require immediate support in both these areas.Ordinarily, this role would be carried out from our office near St Paul’s, with some home-working available; however we envisage that the position will be home-based for the remainder of the winter and until we fully re-open our office to all our staff.The post holder will be joining at an exciting stage in our company’s development, contributing to the successful delivery our current and forthcoming projects, as well as research and development.For candidates who advocate sustainability and would enjoy having meaningful input into an emerging sector, this is an exciting position in a friendly and growing company.Role and ResponsibilitiesYou will:

  • Participate in mechanical/electrical engineering team deliverables on new build projects.
  • Develop intelligent 3D models for all Plastic Energy facilities using in-house software, covering process & utility piping routing, equipment and preliminary modelling of steel structures.
  • Assist the mechanical engineering department to draft general arrangement, layouts and elevation drawings.
  • Assist the process engineering department to draft PFDs, P&IDs, hazardous area drawings.
  • Assist the electrical and instrumentation engineering department to draft instrument hook-up drawings, cable tray routings, SLDs, RIO panels and electrical drawings.
  • Prepare work packages for mechanical subcontractors including full fabrication isometrics, bills of materials, general arrangement drawings, layout drawings etc.
  • Perform conformity checks between 3D model and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Ensure design files, server folders and drawing registers are kept up-to-date.
  • Due to the company’s size, candidates will be required to be flexible in the roles they perform within the business.Person Specification
  • Experience in a piping and process plant design environment.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and Navisworks.
  • Experience generating detailed design documentation packages, including isometrics, bills of materials, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Awareness of ASME, ASTM, ISO, EN, BS, MSS standards relating to process pipework (preferred but not essential).
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • The role would suit a candidate with around three years’ work experience in oil & gas, biomass, petrochemical or energy sector.
  • Enthusiasm and aptitude to be part of a growing team.
  • The ability to progress with several different tasks simultaneously and deliver to schedule.
  • Excellent maths and IT skills.
  • An effective communicator with an excellent standard of oral and written English.
  • Sense of adventure, drive and a self-motivator.
  • Background and/or interest in alternative energy technology.
