As the UK’s 1st Academic Health Science Centre, we pride ourselves on being at the cutting edge of innovation and service development and delivering world-class healthcare for our patients through excellence in research, education and training. We aim to provide our patients with the best experience across our Cancer Clinical areas.We are currently developing our cancer services at Imperial, and are looking for 1 Band 6 Nurse on ward 6 North at Charing Cross Hospital. This is a 26 bedded ward which cares for patients with complex symptom’s, patients receiving radioactive isotopes for thyroid and neuroendocrine tumours and palliative patients.The Cancer’s we specialise in include; gastrointestinal (upper and lower), breast, hepato-pancreatico-biliary, endocrine, gestational trophoblastic disease, lung and urological malignancies. Services provided include radiotherapy, chemotherapy, radioactive isotopes, symptom control and palliative care.As a Band 6 nurse you will work as part of a progressive nursing team lead by one of our Matrons working alongside Consultants and the other members of the Specialist teams to develop an integrated service. You will be offered the opportunity to undertake a Degree or Masters programme relevant to your clinical specialty. We have a number of other areas you might be interested in for the future; these include Chemotherapy day care and a Cancer Assessment Unit.As a band 6 you will act as a role model to all staff, have excellent communication skills and knowledge of cancer care and treatments. You will be involved in coordinating patient care on the ward and in planning complex discharge packages with the MDT and medical staff. You will attend daily board and ward rounds when on duty. You will also be involved in auditing of clinical care, participating in the monthly symbiotixs audits and the national monthly ‘safety thermometer’. In the absence of the Matron you will be asked to deputise. You will also be expected to conduct appraisals for junior staff, setting objectives, mentoring and supporting and educating all staff. As part of the role you will be asked to investigate incidents and prepare root cause analysis’s to then disseminate the learning to the whole team. You will also ensure the duty rotas are maintained and proactively check the next shift to ensure adequate staffing levels and escalate concerns as necessary.Please be advised that we expect all staff to be enthusiastic, hardworking, resourceful, kind and compassionate.
