Job Description

Internal audit & assurance quality monitoring Manager or Senior ManagerThe Audit & Assurance internal quality monitoring team is responsible for managing and executing the firms programme of ‘cold file reviews of completed audit and assurance engagements.The objective of the team is to monitor and promote quality in audit and assurance, and to monitor compliance with auditing and ethical standards and other requirements applicable to audit and assurance engagements, and to monitor compliance with the firmsmethodologies and related risk management policies and procedures.The RoleThe role provides an opportunity to join the internal quality monitoring team at a time when the firm is experiencing significant growth. You will have exposure to reviewing audit and assurance files in interesting and diverse sectors and you will liaisefrequently with senior members of the firm.As an internal quality monitoring manager or senior manager, you will contribute to safeguarding and promoting quality, provide valuable insights to engagement teams on good practice and areas for development when delivering engagements, and you will helpto ensure the firm delivers its monitoring plans and complies with its regulatory responsibilities. In particular, you will:

  • Assist the Quality Monitoring Lead to develop an annual audit and assurance internal quality monitoring plan, including the development of new approaches and strategies.
  • Plan and carry out ‘cold reviews of completed audit and assurance engagements, to evaluate the quality of the work and compliance with applicable auditing and ethical standards and other applicable requirements, and the firms methodologies.
  • Draft written questions and findings arising from reviews of engagements, focusing on good practice and areas where improvements are required to safeguard and enhance quality.
  • Lead meetings with senior members of the firm to discuss review findings and conclusions.
  • Deliver the firms follow-up review programme, where actions agreed with engagement teams to address findings from a ‘cold review are checked against the subsequent engagement file.
  • Lead on thematic reviews of discrete audit and assurance areas, to identify best practice examples and areas where firmwide actions may be needed to drive quality.
  • Assist the Quality Monitoring Lead with reporting progress updates to the Audit Executive and reporting themes arising from reviews of engagement files to other stakeholders in the firm to drive quality.
  • Work with the Root Cause Analysis team and Audit Quality Indicators team on ad hoc projects and discrete work streams.
  • Assist the Audit Quality Support Team in the delivery of technical audit training.

  • A passion for quality and helping engagement teams to develop their knowledge and audit and assurance skills.
  • Strong knowledge of UK auditing, ethical, and accounting standards, including IFRS.
  • Ability and willingness to challenge and influence more senior individuals and peers.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple work commitments, and to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Experience of performing ‘hot or ‘cold audit file reviews is desirable, but not essential.
  • Experience of delivering assurance engagements is desirable, but not essential.
