Associate Editor or Senior Editor, Nature Biomedical EngineeringLocation: London, Berlin or New YorkClosing date: 9th May 2021Nature Research is recruiting an editor for Nature Biomedical Engineering. The position is offered on a permanent basis.Nature Biomedical Engineering publishes original research, reviews and commentary of high significance to the biomedical engineering community, including bench scientists interested in devising materials, methods, technologies and therapies to combat disease; engineers designing and optimizing medical devices and procedures; and clinicians leveraging research outputs in biomedical engineering to assess patient health and deliver therapy across a variety of clinical settings and healthcare contexts.We are seeking candidates with research experience in any area of applied biomedicine. Candidates must have a PhD in an area relevant to the applied biomedical sciences or biomedical engineering, and a strong research record. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Previous editorial experience is not required, yet candidates with substantial editorial experience will be considered for Senior Editor. Proficiency in scientific writing and in developmental editing are desirable.The role involves helping a broad section of applied biomedical scientists improve their research work, and shaping a high-impact journal that straddles the applied biomedical sciences, the physical sciences and engineering. Broad scientific expertise, the ability to absorb new knowledge, and a keen interest in the communication of science are prerequisites. We seek candidates who are resourceful, open-minded, decisive and diligent. The role involves constant learning, and offers flexibility in self-management and a sensible balance of independence and collaborative teamwork.The successful applicant will work within a close-knit multidisciplinary team of editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, the overseeing of peer review, the generation and discussion of ideas for new content, the commissioning and editing of reviews and commentary, and writing.
