Job Description

Advertised locations : London, South, South West, West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England, Yorkshire, North West, North, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, South EastThe roleThey are looking to recruit Associate Lecturers to teach SK320 Infectious disease and public health, in the School of Life, Health and Chemical sciences at our client.The position is part-time and equivalent to approximately 0.08 FTE.The work is home-based and has no fixed core hours. It is permanent, with a probation period of two years. The annual salary and workload are fixed, but there are significant workload peaks and troughs throughout the year, mainly linked to providing markingand providing assessment feedback. This is likely to include exam and end of module marking tasks. Other tasks will be required such as providing group tutorials (all online) and focused student support (individual and forum-based). Some evening and weekendwork will be required. There is the possibility of increasing the FTE at some point in the future. The starting full-time salary is £34,304 paid pro rata based on your FTE. Although most of the teaching occurs between October and June, the position is paidover the full calendar year.Start date: September 2022Person Specification:The person specification for this role should be read in conjunction with the generic person specification for an Associate Lecturer at our client. As well as meeting all the requirements set out in the generic person specification, you should have:Essential:

  • A degree in a Biology or Health Sciences related subject, plus postgraduate study of at least one of: immunology, microbiology, ecology and evolution, epidemiology, public health.
  • Evidence of undergraduate teaching and current knowledge of at least two of the areas listed above
  • Experience of helping students to develop research skills, including finding and using scientific literature, data interpretation, and scientific communication skills
  • Proven ability to explain difficult concepts relating to infectious disease and public health
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with other tutors to ensure students are well supported in all areas of the module
Desirable:
  • A postgraduate degree or equivalent qualification in an area related to Biology or Health Sciences
  • Current knowledge of an area related to Health Sciences through research or professional practice
  • Experience of working in a team to deliver student learning
  • A teaching qualification, HEA accreditation or equivalent
