This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the UK Professional Business Publishing team, within our International Higher Education business. We publish 2030 new titles a year on business, finance, and professional development topics under the FinancialTimes Publishing and Pearson Business imprints; catering to all levels, from career starters to senior executives, as well as a select number of student and revision titles. This position has a key role in commissioning new editions of business and personaldevelopment books, and new editions of our student study skills titles, working with our talented authors to ensure the development of high quality, impactful learning resources in a variety of formats.Your Key Responsibilities
  • Analysing Pearson and competitor sales and building an excellent understanding of market trends to suggest new product opportunities within the business and skills development market, study skills market, and potential new editions to publish.
  • Commissioning new editions, including briefing authors and working closely with them to develop competitive and compelling product/content strategies, taking full commercial responsibility for proposals, and negotiating contracts with authors and/or theiragents.
  • Working closely with, and supporting, authors throughout the intensive writing period ensuring that they write to agreed brief and timeline, and providing detailed feedback on draft chapters to shape content to target market needs.
  • Ensuring material is appropriate to the different cultural sensitivities of a global audience and that it conforms to Pearsons diversity, equity, and inclusion guidelines.
  • Liaising with cross-functional teams to facilitate timely production, including preparing manuscripts for handover, completing handover documentation and being on hand to resolve queries throughout the production process.
  • Collaborating with design department to agree cover and text designs as well as writing marketing copy as appropriate; liaising with authors for input and to secure approval.
  • Working as part of a creative and innovative team, contributing thoughtful and well-judged opinions on product strategy and propositions.
  • Demonstrate commercial (business, financial and operational) acumen when making product development decisions to drive revenue growth and profitability.

Youll be working with thought leaders, subjectexperts and/or writers to support and coach them to write high quality content that delivers value to its intended audience.We are looking for an organised professional who can manage multiple priorities and collaborate persuasively and authoritatively with authors. Youll demonstrate experience of reviewing, critically assessing and developing manuscripts, and working with authorsfrom concept to publication.
