The opportunity: We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Wordings Technician to join the Markel team in London. The Technical Underwriting team includingthe Technical Policy Wordings team are part of the Office of the Chief Underwriting Officer (OCUO) of Markel International. The OCUO have responsibilities for the management of Technical Underwriting, Performance, Underwriting Risk, Oversight and Governanceand Customer Outcomes. The role of the OCUO is to support the Chief Underwriting Officer in meeting his statement of responsibilities ensuring that our underwriting is safe and our claims oversight is sound. We achieve this by ensuring that:* Our underwriting meets our profit targets* Aggregations are identified and controlled* Our underwriting is compliant with regulations* We have the right people writing the right risks * Underwriters are supported by good systems and data* We have minimised operational and regulatory risks * Our products and services are fair to customers* Our business can be tracked and accounted forWhat youll be doing:Learning to review and draft wordings, clauses and endorsements for specialty insurance lines, from consumer wordings up to multinational business written on both Lloyds and Company paper Getting to grips with delegated business, Market Reform Contracts(slips) and broker wordings Identifying legal and regulatory requirements within wordings Interpreting and understanding the nuances of wordings and their implications. Supporting the existing wordings specialists as required Learning to support Underwriterswith their referrals and technical queries Getting involved in ad hoc wordings projects, including helping to build upon the teams foundationsOur must haves:From either a legal, claims or insurance background Understand the basic principles of insurance and has an awareness of the London market Excellent grasp of the English language and grammar Excellent eye for detail and strong analytical skills An inquisitivemind, not afraid to challenge ideas and ask questions Good communication skills, both written and oral Organised, reliable and flexible approach to work, with the ability to plan and manage workload to adhere to deadlines Ability to work both within a teamand independently Self-sufficient and motivated, but prepared to question, learn and request help as needed Proven relationship-building skills with partners at various levels Common sense and the ability to think creatively Has the desire, ability and mentalityto get things right and to put the customer first Collaborative, organised and friendly Experience of working in an office environmentWho we are:Markel Corporation (NYSE - MKL) a Fortune 500 company with over 60 offices in 20+ countries, is a holding company for insurance, reinsurance, specialist advisory and investment operations around the world.
