This is a great opportunity to gain experience as an Assistant Ranger at the National Trust, at one of our beautiful and truly unique, urban green spaces.Rangers have been a part of the National Trust since the beginning, our place in the organisationsfuture means that we need to think long term about how we look after our special places. As part of the wider Ranger team, we need you to think about our impact on the environment, and find better ways to do things.Salary: £20,065 Please note that the salaryadvertised is inclusive of an additional Outer London Weighting allowance of £2,690 per annum.Hours: 37.5 hours a week. There will be some weekend work required on a rota basis.Contract: Fixed term contract until September / October 2021What its like to workhere Osterley Park is an important site for recreation and for wildlife. The estate is home to 6 species of bats, rare species of invertebrates, amphibians, birds and small mammals which all rely on the parkland for their habitat. With two lakes, three meadowsunder mid-tier stewardship and a fantastic collection of specimen and veteran trees to look after, there is a great variety on offer. Our tenant farmer has a herd of Charolaise cattle which are used to graze the woodland pasture in the Great Meadow, thereis scope to extend the amount of grazing and develop this relationship. Having recently opened up some of the original views of the mansion house from the estate, visitors can now enjoy glimpses of Osterley House in its grade 2 listed parkland setting.Whatyoull be doing With your endless passion for our work, youll help with the protection and care of habitats, wildlife, property and machinery, and your passion will inspire other to love this beautiful place as much as you do. As an easily identifiable member of the Ranger team, on your best day you will be creating lasting memories for everyone.So whether youre maintaining our green spaces to assisting with guidedvisitor walks, through to delivering a wide range of engaging visitor experiences, no two days will be the same. Youll also share and promote the work that we do here, ensuring special places like these are here to be both protected and enjoyed by everyonefor ever. This will see you responding to queries and explaining the value of the work being undertaken. After all, your passion and dedication could fire the imagination that makes a visitor become a supporter for the rest of their life.To deliver this rolesuccessfully, youll need to: Demonstrate a passion for nature and the outdoors Have good verbal communication and customer service skills, able to interact confidently customers and colleagues Have good people skills able to build strong relationships externallyand internally with volunteers and employees. In this role youll be working alongside volunteers, assigning tasks and supporting them to perform at their best Practical experience in grounds maintenance Some familiarity with machinery/equipment and practicalcertificates as required by the property which can be discussed further at interview Full Driving License
