Job Description

SummaryThank you for taking time in showing interest in this important leadership role for the National Trust in the North of England. The Assistant Director role is a pivotal post within the region, leading and inspiring a team of highly qualified andmotivated professionals who are experts in their various conservation fields. Youll lead consultancy teams, providing exceptional advice and guidance to our property teams on all aspects of conservation, from land management to buildings care and projectmanagement.Traditionally this role would have all been about the conservation and protection of our places but now its as much about the people and supporters of the Trust and how we connect with their surrounding landscapes and communities. The Trust hascontinued to evolve over its 125 years and so has the role of its leaders. We want to attract the very best, a person who is driven by getting the best out of the individuals and teams around them, using a broad range of skills to coach and motivate them.AsRegional Director, I am passionate about creating a high performing leadership team across the North, made up of inspirational leaders, who have a passion for the North and the role cultural and natural heritage can play in its regeneration. This is even morerelevant now with the renewed focus on rebalancing the national investments and as we rebuild following the impact of Covid19. Building trusted relationships externally and internally will be critical part of this role, being an authentic voice for the region,able to speak with passion and clarity and make connections between our internal strategic priorities and external agendas and partners.You will have the privilege of working at some truly awe inspiring places but we have ambition that these places are accessibleand relevant to all, so I want to recruit leaders with an inclusive mindset, able to challenge behaviours and align personally to our core organisational values.At the heart of this role will be accountability and leadership of our Consultancy in the region,with particular focus on the conservation specialisms across our built and natural heritage and project managers within these team. You will also be expected to sponsor major development and / or conservation projects within the region that enable deliveryof our strategy and growth agenda.Each member of the Regional Leadership Team also takes on lead roles for the region aligned to key strategic outcomes and national Directorates. Although I am open to the area which this applicant might lead, I am particularlyinterested in applications from people who have had experience of working and leading our core conservation work that sits under our Looking After and Land and Nature ambitions, partly given the set-up of our Consultancy, where this role will have a sharedaccountability for leadership with another ADC who covers the communication, growing support and experiences aspects of the consultancy. Workingclosely with our Director of the North, the other Assistant Director of Consultancy in the region, and our Assistant Directors of Operations. Youll work with us to shape and deliver our regional plans and contribute your expertise to some of the highest profileregional and national programmes we have in the National Trust.Youll work across the whole region, providing support, knowledge and challenge to your teams, colleagues and peers, working collaboratively and championing our strategic aims both internally andexternally.Working on large programmes of work as Project Sponsor or Client, youll need to be familiar with project management frameworks and practices.
