Job Description

Assistant BuyerThis profitable and entrepreneurial business, whose current client base includes some of the UKs best known restaurants, bars and clubs has a genuinely strong presence in London and is increasing its sales around the country - through organic growth andacquisition. With a turnover of over £100 million in 2019 it supplies a full range of drinks, spanning over 4,000 products, including spirits, wine and beer. This role will focus on Beer, Cider & Soft Drinks but may also include some spirits. Youll work withsome of the biggest names and brands in the drinks industry. Activities might include range reviews, vendor rationalisation, new supplier sourcing and contract renegotiation. The best candidates will be of graduate calibre and bring a strong intellect, commercialunderstanding, imagination and a high level of inter-personal skill coupled with a passion for this fascinating and rewarding industry.The RoleThe buying function is a key element in ensuring competiveness and profitability. This role will focus on alldrinks categoriesbeer, cider, soft drinks, wine, Champagne & spirits.The appointee will be expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Assess stock availability and place orders in an accurate and timely way to ensure warehouse quantities are appropriate.
  • Analysis of buying patterns to help predict future demand trends.
  • Liaise with other functions (for example warehouse, sales, and accounts) to help ensure the smooth running of the business and opportunities to improve systems are grasped.
  • Place purchase orders precisely with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Expected to attend a maximum or two stock takes a year possibly on the weekend.
  • The appointee will be expected to work effectively both on their own and as part of a team.
The successful candidate will have
  • Good negotiation, numerical and analytical ability.
  • A WSET qualification.
  • Graduate caliber.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Excellent practical knowledge of popular IT packages.
  • Must have good Excel skills and be able to use a variety of function such as V-Look Up, Pivot Tables, index Matching and Sorting & Filtering data.
  • Wellorganised and able to work to deadlines and to deal with multiple projects.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
