Job Description

Role:Alexandra Steed URBAN is seeking an experienced architectural consultant with specialist knowledge in urban and landscape design. You will be working on projects through all RIBA stages and at all scales, from site survey and desktop research, strategic thinking, planning, design to supporting construction administration. In our dynamic group of landscape architects and urbanists, you will be supporting the project directors with strong architectural knowledge and solid research ability, as well as advancing landscape and urban design capabilities. Alongside this, you will be expected to have a forward-thinking outlook, integrating the latest sustainability and ecological methods, and able to support the team in preparation of resilient strategies and design. Your role will also include supporting the team with bids and marketing materials and will be expected to have knowledge in preparing and submitting complex and detailed proposals. An understanding of office and design management would be beneficial alongside experience in budget and cost control. The candidate must fulfil the following requirements:Duties:

  • Communicate landscape, urban design and architectural aspects with the wider team and client. This could include soft and hard material arrangements, green and blue infrastructure elements, building styles and layouts, for example.
  • Undertake site constraints and opportunity studies, including sunlight, accessibility, circulation, and contamination, for example, and develop key principles and objectives as part of proposed solutions.
  • Prepare forward thinking sustainable strategies and design in support of the team developing ecological and climate change resilient projects.
  • Work with our directors to develop design concepts as 2D and 3D drawings, physical models, as well as other multi-media applications.
  • Lead both technical and graphic mapping tasks in medium to large scale planning projects via comprehensive GIS skills.
  • Lead production of high-quality reports from site assessment, strategy, concept through to developed design.
  • Prepare landscape technical drawings as well as corresponding CGI visualisations.
  • Undertake a site observation role for construction projects, attending meetings and completing required correspondence.
  • Give presentations in both internal and external workshops.
  • Conduct graphic and technical design for Alexandra Steed’s art installations.
  • Assist the practice to prepare bid documents, including compiling entries and managing each team’s contribution.
  • Support in-office management procedures including office facilities, social media where appropriate, coordination with IT support team, and organising meetings etc.
    • Skills and Experience:• Minimum three years relevant professional experience, with at least two of those years working in the UK. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in architecture, master’s degrees in both Architecture and Arts and have qualified with Distinction as a minimum. • Have extensive project experience in GIS mapping on large-scale UK and Saudi Arabia strategic, cultural and heritage projects. • Demonstrate experience in strategic framework planning across extensive regions in England. • Demonstrate experience and affinity with high quality landscape architecture projects and designing and installing art installations within the UK. • Have excellent skills in the Adobe Creative Suite, at least Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and After Effects. • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp, GIS/ArcGIS, Lumion and V-Ray. • At least one year’s experience in required areas of office management. • Be fluent in English, both written and verbal. • To meet the practice’s needs of exploring international markets, experience, and knowledge of working in Saudi Arabia, Russia, and China. • Translation skills in Mandarin would be particularly beneficial. • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work remotely or in the office with equivalent ease.Should the candidate be successful, they will be employed full time.Please note that only candidates to be interviewed will hear back from us.
