Job Description

Do you want to contribute to working out how to allocate approx. £100 billion of funding to Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) to commission care for patients in their localityThis an exciting opportunity to work in the allocations section of the Analysis and Insight for Finance Team of NHS England and NHS Improvement to help shape how health care resources are distributed.The team provide advice on the allocation of funding to CCGs for their core commissioning responsibilities. Our objectives are to set fair allocations between CCG areas, based on evidence on the relative need for healthcare, and which contribute to a reduction in health inequalities.As an experienced analyst the post holder will work as part of a dynamic analytical community in NHS England and NHS Improvement and provide high quality analytical support to the allocations development programme. This includes the refresh of the allocation formulae for specialised services and a review of how health inequalities are accounted for in allocations.The successful candidate will have a strong analytical background and be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Knowledge and established practice of a variety and depth of analytical techniques (including advanced Excel skills) to provide high-quality, timely analysis and intelligence to support the work of the Allocations Team.
  • Be adaptable when finding analytical solutions to problems, to analyse and triangulate data in innovative ways and present findings clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining quality within analysis.
  • Be able to drive their own work programme, providing guidance and review of others’ work and contributing appropriately to the overall strategy.
  • Have excellent communication skills and be able to influence people with different perspectives to get the most out of stakeholder relationships.
  • Be calm under pressure and able to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Be a key member of the team as well as supporting effective communication and stakeholder management, both internally and externally.
  • Experience of using SQL to query large datasets and in using statistical software such as SAS, STATA or R would be desirable.
  • This is a fixed term role until the end of November 2021, to cover an internal secondment. The post holder can be based in Leeds or London.
