Account Director (Media Relations - Energy) - LondonSalary: CompetitiveThe Company:My client is a political consultancy for the energy sector, specialised in political risk and strategic engagement. They help energy companies and investors to navigate the UKs political landscape and make the right strategic decisions. Their offer is twofold:they provide political risk analysis to help clients understand political risk factors and they provide strategic advice to help them turn that knowledge into action.They help companies operate with confidence in an uncertain political environment. For example, they:

  • Support corporate and public affairs teams with specialist political and policy risks in the energy sector.
  • Provide political intelligence and analysis for senior business leaders.
  • Offer strategic political support for market development or new technologies.
  • Develop thought leadership and policy platforms to help clients lead the public debate.
  • Conduct political due diligence for LPs/GPs to inform mergers and acquisitions.
  • Support firms with their expansion into the UK, helping their teams to understand relevant political and policy factors.
  • Design systems for overseas board members, LPs and GPs seeking to monitor and manage political risk across UK-based portfolios and operations.
  • Establish crisis communications frameworks to prepare clients for when the worst happens.
The Role:My client, a small specialist communications consultancy, is looking for an excellent Account Director or Senior Account Director. This person will take a leading role on media relations for an energy sector client, as well as working proactively to growthe business.This is a position for someone ambitious with an entrepreneurial mindset, whos keen to help build a company. Its a rare opportunity to make a big impact in a small firm, with great promotion opportunities as a result.Role Responsibilities:
  • Work within a small and specialised team to support clients with media relations.
  • Act as day-to-day account lead and drive a strategy designed to change the media narrative around an important renewable energy technology, designing programmes and campaigns that lead to positive media engagement. Youll work in lockstep with colleagueswho are focused on political engagement.
  • Deliver tactical results in media relations on a day-to-day basis, including rapid response to media enquiries.
  • Be a key driver in new business development.
  • Build positive working relationships with journalists and other influential stakeholders on behalf of my clients company and their clients.
  • Work closely with senior colleagues and manage junior team members, including those with non-media backgrounds.
Essential Skills & Requirements:
  • Confidence: Youll be the media lead on a key account, so you need to be authoritative and confident when engaging with people inside and outside the company.
  • Intelligence: Someone who can grasp complex issues and think creatively. A university degree that demonstrates strong intellectual ability, or work experience that does the same.
  • Experience: 5-10 years in corporate/media relations (agency or in-house, or as a journalist) with experience in a highly regulated sector. You dont need to know energy inside out, but it will help. You should be very comfortable handling public policyissues.
  • Writing excellence: Writing and presentation skills are essential in this role. You must be able to produce and present high quality materials in written form and in person to senior stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurialism: My client is looking for someone wholl take a proactive role in new business development through marketing, promotion, thought leadership and networking.
  • Ambition: Youll have the chance to work on things that you wouldnt elsewhere, and youll be promoted you quickly if you can rise to the challenge.
  • Diligence: My client is looking for someone whos hard working, has attention to detail and can take the initiative to support clients.
