Job Description

You would be working for Cignpost - a company with huge ambition! Following incredible success creating Covid-19 secure workspaces for the film, elite sports and banking industries and getting the world travelling again, we are expanding rapidly to bringour Science, Data and Logistics expertise to deliver proactive healthcare testing to everyone, and we are looking for new talent to help us achieve this.Role Overview:As part of a team of bench scientists you run assays for assessing the presence of SARS-COV-2 in human biological specimens. Initially, scientists will work in teams to prepare samples e.g. human nasopharyngeal swabs, extract RNA, and run qPCR with a validatedCOVID-19 method.Responsibilities: Work in BSL2 lab or clean room Work with human biological specimens. Work with samples which may contain SARS-Cov-2 or other pathogens. Working and communicating across a fast-paced cross organisational team. Strictly following SOPs. Shift workOperationally you will report to the Laboratory Manager.

  • Reconciles the human biological specimens delivered with the specimen manifest from the Clinical team.
  • Receives specimen according to the safety guidelines and relevant procedures, while using necessary PPE.
  • Identification of samples that may be compromised or do not meet established acceptability criteria according to defined processes and procedures (e.g., not properly labelled, open tubes, empty tubes etc.).
Performs viral inactivation, relevant sample preparation, extraction and PCR assay according to test procedures
  • Review test results against Quality Control data, tracks and records data and results in the appropriate LIMS database or relevant IT system
To follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments as applicable and in which the individual has been trained. Timely and accurate completion of all paperwork
  • To strictly adhere to BSL 2 precautions and appropriate use of PPE
To adhere to all site Health & Safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure that all activities performed adhere to all client standards (GXP, Safety and Security).
  • Reports to the senior scientist or laboratory manager any significant problems of which he/she becomes aware in daily practice;
  • Checks performance of internal quality controls to validate the tests.

Qualifications:Essential
  • Further education degree/diploma in a biological subject or equivalent experience
  • Significant experience working in a BSL-2 Laboratory
  • Experience in handling human biological specimens
  • Experience of RNA extraction and PCR assays
  • Competent in the use of LIMS or other IT platforms that collate, track and report samples
  • Experience in following SOPs and Risk Assessments
  • Proven customer service focus, ability to work collaboratively and in a matrix.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Good knowledge of Laboratory Health and safety
  • Efficient using Microsoft office - e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Excellent communication skills to be able to work across a fast-paced organisational team
Desirable
  • Experience working in a GXP environment
