Job Description

Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Livingston, is currently looking to recruit a Learning Centre Assistant for as soon as possible until 11th February 2024 with potential to extend on a rate of £11.17-£12.55/hour PAYE. The workinghours are 14 hours per week - Tuesday 4:45pm-9pm / Thursday 1:30-9pm (45 min break) / Friday 9am-12pm. This role will be based onsite.Responsibilities:- Be proactive to support all users to make effective use of library/learning centre services, including electronic library services- Prepare Learning Centre guides and learning packages to promote flexible learning services- Give introductory talks and presentations to new groups of students- Give support and advice to students in the use of software packages to support learning- Assist in developing and maintenance of comprehensive subject based resources for the Virtual Learning Environment for courses, including e-books and on line resources- Deal with general enquiries from staff, students and the general public- Support and assist users to locate materials for specific projects or for general purposes- Answer and direct telephone enquiries as appropriate- Co-ordinate the issue and return of all learning materials and equipment including restricted access and short loan materials.- Reserve materials on request for users using a variety of sources including universities, schools and public libraries.- Supporting and hosting special library events such as enrolment evenings or world book fair.- Register students and staff and issue library membership cards and joining information.- Assist in cataloguing of all books and e-books that come into the library/Learning Centre using Dewey Decimal classification, Marc 21 format and national library standards and promote stock to staff and students as appropriate.- Process subscription payments and renewals for journals/periodicals and record and display resource materials as received. Arrange the storage and withdrawal of back copies of items.- Use appropriate systems to process relevant paperwork to obtain inter-library loans for items which are not held in the Library and create temporary catalogue records for these items.- Use library systems including Symphony and PECOS to procure and process new stock for the library and Learning Centre.- Carry out a regular stock check of the library/Learning Centre stock and replace lost items as appropriate or delete as appropriate.- Handle petty cash on a daily basis for purchase of photocopying, sale of newspapers and excess/out of date and lost books and process takings to Finance on a daily basis for banking- Deal with mail as appropriate and pass to appropriate individuals- Act as first point of contact for students and staff in the use of technology for learning, including access to systems, access to Athens, photocopying, registrations for ILA funding, and use of the Virtual Learning Environment- Support staff and students to accurately source and reference materials for assessment purposes- Support staff and students in the use of Turnitin plagiarism software to check assessments prior to submissions- Utilise the MyPC IT system to effectively manage bookings for computers and to ensure fair access for all students- Assist in updating and developing materials for the website- Prepare Lost Item reports (i.e. long overdue items) using Library Management system. Update Access database with Lost items and borrower details and send to Finance to start the Debt Collection process.- Any other duties as arising or pertaining to the job roleEssential Skills:- Extensive knowledge of office administration procedures and experience in using various computer software packages (e.g Microsoft Office)- Good general education- Strong customer service skills- Good level of IT skills to use in house computer systems.Desirable Skills:- Previous experience working in a libraryIf you would like to hear more about this opportunity please get in touch.
