Job Description

Engineering ManagerFacilities and InstrumentsLocation:LivingstoneOur client is an independent laboratory-testing and consultancy company servicing the oil and gas industry. As well as providing production chemistry services they also design and manufacture bespoke laboratory instruments and test-rigs which evaluate chemicalsfor oilfield applications. These are used both in-house and in laboratories worldwide.The company are seeking an Engineering Manager to supervise their Engineering Services Team and to oversee a broad range of Engineering projects for internal and external clients. The successful candidate will have an engineering qualificationand a hands-on background in an Engineering environment, working with a variety of equipment design and build projects.This role will be based in the main facility in Livingston, West Lothian, UK. Although predominantly office based, the role will involve regular supervision of practical operations and HSE monitoring in both engineering-workshop and laboratory environments.Principal Duties:

  • Responsible for production of specialist high pressure high temperature test rigs
  • Responsible for management of the facilities, including: electrical, HVAC, extraction, gas detection alarms, heating & lighting
  • Development and manufacture of specialist laboratory test equipment to fulfill customer contracts
  • Day to day management and organisation of engineering projects to ensure customer satisfaction
    • Planning and prioritisation of projects, staff and resources
    • Managing facilities engineering, liaising with contractors and supporting lab-engineering requirements
    • Preparation and review of technical procedures for equipment commissioning and functional testing
    • Review, interpretation, and presentation of technical data from engineering projects
    • Management of equipment calibration and maintenance
  • Preparation of proposals, quotes, reports, and presentation to customers
    • Creation of parts lists, Bill of Materials, equipment design and procurement of new products
    • Allocation and timetabling of resources, equipment and consumables for equipment build and routine in-house maintenance
  • Customer communication and technical sales
    • Liaising with customers on new projects
    • Travel to customer sites to carry out equipment installation, modifications and repairs
    • Assist with customer training as appropriate
    • Expected to include international travel
  • Input into creation and design of Test-Rigs and associated Test-Rig Manuals
    • Maintain drawing database, create flow schematics and manage new equipment specifications
  • Working to the ISO 9001 Quality Management System with traceable, repeatable work completed to timescale
    • Management of safety, quality and environmental systems
    • Following core processes and Standard Operating Procedures
    • Assisting with H&S, audits, 5S and housekeeping as required
  • Any other relevant duties as required
Essential skills/experience
  • Recognised Engineering qualification
  • Experience in the design requirements and project management of small/medium engineering projects
  • Understanding of Good Engineering and Laboratory Practices, and applicable Safety Regulations
  • Strong supervision skills
  • Knowledge and practical experience of assembly work, maintenance and repair of electrical/mechanical equipment
  • Background of working in a hands-on instrument engineering environment
  • Awareness of workshop equipment including lathe and milling machines
  • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings
  • Willingness to learn and understand the technical background to a range of laboratory testing methodologies currently employed within the company
Desirable skills/experience
  • Experience in equipment design within laboratory environments
  • Experience working with pressurised fluid systems
  • Experience with Swagelok, Parker and other tube fittings, pneumatic or hydraulic systems and workshop machining
  • Experience of equipment calibration (temperature, pressure, volume, mass)
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of electrical and electronic systems
  • Experience in data acquisition systems
