Job Description

A very well established precision engineering company based in Livingston is recruiting for a Design Engineer where you will own projects from quotation to delivery using the latest technology!The Design Engineers work flexitime Monday to Friday 39 hours per week! Core hours are Mon-Thu 9am-3pm, and Fri 9am-12.30pm! Salary on offer is £35-40k per annum plus bonus and other fantastic benefits as below!As Design Engineer reporting into the Design Manager working 3 other Designers on a real variety of different projects such as electromechanical machine design, sheet metal design, 3D printing, clean room furniture, jigs and fixtures and automated projectsand control systems! Your role will involve the following:

  • Control and maintain job history including drawing documentation, BOM, supplier quotations.
  • Full completion of all ERP information and paperwork for in-house/subcontract manufacture.
  • Monitor Job progress and report any delay to the customer and Account Manager in a timely manner. Pursue avenues to minimize any impact on the customer.
  • Always seek the most cost effective, efficient ways to complete a project.
  • On site visits with customers (2-3 per month locally) to evaluate, advise and design solutions that meet their requirements.
  • Discuss design and manufacturing methods with the management team to optimise manufacturing efficiency and cost.
  • Prepare initial concept drawings; collate all material & parts costs prior to submission to the Sales and Estimating manager.
  • Prepare detailed manufacturing CAD drawings (Creo or other) for in-house and sub-contract manufacture.
  • Oversee assembly, build and test of new designs before shipment to the customer.
  • Obtain competitive quotations from suppliers and sub-contractors to minimize expenditure.
  • Actively pursue new suppliers for competitive quotations, negotiate prices where required.
  • Purchase materials used for manufacture.
We are really keen to hear from applicants with the following skills and experience:
  • Previous experience working in a Design Engineer role
  • CAD is essential, with Autodesk Inventor or Creo/ Pro Engineer or similar software
  • Precision engineer, sheet metal or fabrication design background/ experience would be advantageous
  • Design/ testing of automated machinery is desirable
