Job Description

To develop commercially viable chemical processes for new and existing products for key customers. To ensure the safe and efficient scale-up of all new processes for which they are responsible to pilot plant and full-scale plant. To provide ongoing technical support for existing business including the improvement and optimisation of chemical processesClient DetailsThe client is a global speciality chemical manufacturer based near Liverpool as well as having other sites around the UK.DescriptionTechnical Lead - Research and Development - Liverpool - Manufacturing and Production

  • Act as Technical Representative for the Company in discussions with clients as assigned. Lead and/or provide technical service to the customers enquiries and problems as needed.
  • Develop safe, cost-effective processes for new and existing products as assigned. Provide necessary technical support in scaling up processes through pilot plant and onto full-scale production, which includes support outside of normal hours as necessary. Assist and/or lead the development of analytical methods for processes as needed.
  • Evaluate plant fits for new products based on processes developed within the Companys laboratories or based on technical information supplied by our customers as assigned.
  • Lead and/or assist in continuous improvement initiatives for existing products (yield improvement, cycle-time reduction and waste minimisation) as assigned.
  • Maintain current awareness and keep abreast of the latest scientific and technological developments relevant to the business and make use of that knowledge to continually improve and optimise the profitability of the products manufactured by the Company.
  • Work collaboratively with all company locations and personnel in support of the business/ project initiatives.
  • Travel both within the UK and abroad as needed in support of the business / project initiatives.
  • Prepare regular written and oral reports covering work undertaken.
  • Undertake other duties as may be required.
  • Actively participate as part of Site Leadership Team.
  • Line management responsibility for Process Development Chemist
    • ProfileTechnical Lead - Research and Development Education & Qualifications:
  • PhD, MSc or BSc in Chemistry or PhD in Chemical Engineering.
    • Experience: (industry and job specific)
  • Relevant experience in an organic synthesis laboratory within a manufacturing environment would be a distinct advantage.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience of productdevelopment with a high level of scientific training, specifically in organic chemistry and preferably, in a batch manufacturing environment
  • Experience of scale up from laboratory to pilot and full plant production
    • Knowledge & Skills: (incl. specific training requirements)
  • Excellent knowledge of analytical techniques such as GC, HPLC , GCMS and NMR and the ability to interpret analytical results.
  • Project Management experience
  • Knowledge and use of Six Sigma tools and techniques or similar
