Safeguarding means protecting peoples health, wellbeing and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect.Job PurposeAs a Senior Technical Architect, you will work across the DBS technology estate, providing technical leadership and architectural design capability, ensuring the technical solutions are best practice and compliant with the appropriate design patterns. The Technical Architect will own the information architecture and support the Chief Architect in the creation of the architecture vision and ensure that this vision aligns to and facilitates the delivery of the DBS Business Strategy, deploying all necessarytools and techniques accordingly, as well as identifying and articulating technology led transformation opportunities. The Technical Architect works with delivery teams and projects, planners and designers to take an early view of how they can identify andimplement the best solutions to deliver business change and achieve Departmental objectives. This solution implementation will be aligned to the architecture vision. The Technical Architect will be comfortable working within agile and waterfall methodologies.At this level the Technical Architect will typically lead a project strand, a medium size project delivery area or the technical discipline of the development capability within an agile team.These activities will be relevant to the DBS digital modernisation plans, the wider technology transformation delivery roadmap, and the day to day technical sustainment work needed to maintain the estate.In line with the GDS DDaT framework you will be expected to contribute in the following areas: Bridging the gap between the technical and non-technical. You will work with business and technology stakeholders to translate business problems into technical designs. You will create an optimal design through an iterative process, aligning the user need withthe system requirements and organisational objectives. Understanding the whole context. You will look beyond the immediate technical problem and identify the wider implications. You will work in 3 dimensions: knowing relevant historical context and future impact; understanding how current work fits in broadercontexts and strategies; and looking for deeper underlying problems and opportunities.Person SpecificationEssential Criteria: A proven track record of using IS and IT for commercial benefit Good experience of industry standard Enterprise Architecture frameworks Experience of working in agile teams supporting rapid solution delivery in cloud-based environments Experience of building solutions in that adhere to relevant security standards. Experience of using an architecture repository and architecture modeling tools to ensure the control and benefit maximization of the application and data architectures Experience of producing high quality and proportionate design artifacts in the application and data domains e.g. catalogues, high level designs, system use case diagrams, data models etc. Experience of implementing and managing Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) solutions e.g. Oracle CRM, Siebel Case Management, IBM InfoSphere as well as bespoke developments in proprietary and open source programming frameworks e.g. NodeJS, Java, Ruby, PHP,Python etc. Experience across physical and cloud-based architectures and across Windows and UNIX/LINUX platforms and of server and desktop virtualization, Infrastructure as Code, Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).Desirable Criteria: A good understanding of industry best practice in the use of IS/IT enabled business change A sound knowledge and application of architecture in a government or regulated environment.
