Job Description

The role involves acting for large institutional landlords, pension funds and asset managers in contentious property litigation matters.You will be able to operate at a high level in terms of case management and will be capable of running your own caseload as well as assisting senior colleagues with the efficient running of their cases.TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Dealing with advisory work including:

  • Reviewing title documents and leases at residential, commercial and mixed-use developments
  • Advising on merits of claims and case progression having reviewed evidence and relevant contractual documentation
  • Advising on the procedure in relation to litigation, dispute resolution, possession
  • Advising on rent reviews, covenants, easements and trespass
  • Advising clients on current health and safety legislation affecting multi-let developments
  • Assisting with monthly client calls relating to case updates and progression Litigation & Dispute Resolution
  • Issuing proceedings and managing cases allocated to the Small Claims Track, Fast-Track and Multi-Track through to conclusion including all directions. Typical cases include breach of covenant, service charge disputes, declaratory relief and forfeiture
  • Assisting senior members of staff with high-value and complex cases, often within the High Court/QBD/TCC through to trial
  • Drafting and issuing applications including summary judgment, specific disclosure, strike out and extensions of time
  • Briefing counsel as and when necessary, attending mediations and settlement meetings
  • Assisting with appeals to the Upper Tribunal (Property Chamber) and the Court of Appeal General
  • Provide excellent service to our clients actively maintaining a dialogue and ensuring clients are regularly updated as to the progress of cases
  • Recognise when a case or specific issue needs escalating for more senior input including the use of counsel
  • Maintain your knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements including any relevant policies and procedures such as data protection, anti-money laundering, accounts rules and diversity
  • Bring any complaints, breaches, media interest, regulatory reports or similar issues to the immediate attention of your line manager and the Compliance Team
  • Undertake any other duties which may arise as directed
