Job Description

We have a brilliant opportunity for an experienced Network Engineer to join Yodels award-winning IT team based in Speke, Liverpool You will be responsiblefor maintaining the current IT Network Infrastructure (WAN, LAN, VoIP, perimeter security, load balancing, data centre and remote access).What youll be doingYou will be part of a team of 4 Network Engineers who maintain the IT network infrastructure and work with other teams to ensure the resolution of incidents and problems, but always putting the customer first. You will contribute to the development of theexisting network and suggest ways of improving technology, processes and documentation. You will also be given opportunities to work within project teams to help design, implement and operate IT projects. Other duties will include:

  • Design and implementation of network-based IT solutions.
  • Provisioning and management of Yodels datacentres.
  • Liaising with suppliers and partners in the definition of projects, costing and delivery.
  • Definition of project work, including documentation and reported of project status.
  • Installation, upkeep and maintenance of network cabinets and cabling.
  • Configuration changes on networking equipment working within existing change processes.
  • Work across teams including Service Management, Technical Project Delivery and Solution Design ensuring excellent customer service and communication.
  • Pro-active monitoring and management of the network to identify and resolve potential issues as they arise.
  • Resolution or escalation of all faults, liaising with third parties where necessary.
  • To answer and resolve any support requests escalated to third-line level.
  • Travel to sites across the UK as the need arises.
  • Ensuring backups of all networking equipment.
  • Work under direction, capable of working without supervision.
  • Inform technical stakeholders or project teams of any changes to systems or processes.
What you need to show usYou will play an integral role and will be required to take an active part in meetings with clients, users and development staff during investigations so excellent communication skills is key. You will be compliant and ensure adequate documentation is produced,distributed, and maintained and you will be capable of working with minimal supervision.Technical skills will be an essential requirement including experience in the following areas:
  • WAN
  • Datacentre
  • LAN
  • WLAN
  • VOIP
You will also be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
  • Good arithmetic skills
  • Cisco CCNP, CCNA or CCNP Security desirable.
  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP Collaboration (Voice) desirable.
  • Takes a structured and effective approach to own work and demonstrates leadership potential.
  • Shows a calm, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Consistently meets deadlines and produces work of a high standard
  • Identifies problems and escalates appropriately.
  • Project management, including production of business cases, project scopes and costing.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office tools such as Visio and Excel.
  • Experience in integrating of SaaS, PaaS and IaaS solutions into an on-premise datacentre.
  • Experience with document management and control with Microsoft Sharepoint.
  • Awareness of Microsoft Office 365, Azure and AWS cloud technologies.
  • Takes an active part in meetings with clients/users/development staff during system investigations and throughout subsequent development work.
Desirable experience
  • Cisco-based routing, switching, firewalls, ACI SD-WAN.
  • Palo Alto firewalls and threat prevention.
  • Meraki based switching and wireless networking.
  • F5 load balancing and applications.
  • Network automation, including Python, Ansible and Jenkins.
  • Cisco and Microsoft based telephony platforms.
  • Open-source network management software.
