Job Description

Due to an Internal promotion and growing demand for mechanical engineering services from clients, this growing Mechanical Engineering repairs Workshop is seeking a Workshop Manager to support a busy Mechanical Services Manager. This role requires good experienceof manual/conventional turning, milling and boring machines. This is a pivotal leadership role in a large, well-equipped, and busy machine shop providing 24/7/365 machining, fitting, welding, and site support services to a wide range of industries and utilitiesin the Northwest. Duties include: -

  • Managing a team of 20 including manual machinists/drivers/labourers/admin
  • Manage, develop, and provide technical support to a large team of multi-skilled workshop/site operatives.
  • Ensure that appropriate workshop procedures are in place and adhered to.
  • Accurately cost jobs and prepare quotations.
  • Organising the work through the shop - most of the jobs last no more than 2-3 days
  • Ensuring work is done to agreed lead times and efficiencies
  • Meet clients on their site a price up jobs
  • Implement new processes and procedures in the workshop
  • Managing compliance machine guidelines
  • Communicate with the customers and field calls - ring customers and give progress reports and paperwork
  • Working shifts - one weekend in 4 or 3 and a Saturday every now again and out of hours
  • Liaise with customers to assess, cost and progress works
  • Monitor and control progress of jobs to ensure tasks are completed in line with estimated/quoted times.
  • Monitor and inspect all jobs in progress at key stages and prior to delivery; ensure all findings are recorded.
  • Ensure that PPE is issued and used as appropriate.
  • Ensure that all equipment is safe, in good order and stored in the correct location when not in use.

  • A reliable mechanical engineering manager who thrives on a varied workload, are a proven leader, and are fully conversant with recent experience of conventional/machining machining, ideally with experience of mechanical fitting, please apply as we wouldlike to hear from you.

  • Strong leadership experience
  • Experience of improving efficiencies
  • Good IT skills in MS Office
