Job Description

Growing demand for mechanical engineering services from clients has led to a requirement for a number of time-served Manual Machine Shop Technicians with good experience of manual/conventional (non-CNC) Turning, Milling and Boring machine, ideally with mechanicalfitting experience. Additional experience of NC machining would be an advantage. Your duties will include: -

  • Working in a team of 12
  • Manufacture, repair and cutting of steel parts, using manual (non-CNC) lathes, milling & boring machines.
  • 20% site work and 80% workshop based work
  • Working overtime subject to workload and emergency service requirements.
  • Provide cover when on call (one week in four/five, this will reward you with time and a half and double time pay, and time off in lieu of additional hours worked)
  • Cutting steel and making steel - operate milling, lathe or grinder, repair or one offs as well as making shafts, work is varied so could include making industrial size products
  • Operate Lathes, milling machines and boring machines, vertical/horizontal
  • Mechanical fitting skills would be ideal
To apply you must be: -
  • A time-serviced manual/conventional machinist (non-CNC) (essential)
  • City & Guilds or other engineering qualification
  • Mechanical fitter experience would be ideal (but not essential)
  • Able to work standard hours Monday - Friday 8 - 4.30 pm and work one in 3 or 4 shifts including overtime/late night work/early morning work/weekend work (paid time and a half and double time plus time off in lieu)
  • Experience of operating milling, lathe, or grinder experience
Whats on offer: -
  • The company offer a competitive starting rate of between £14.00 and £17.00 per hour and an OTE of £30,000-£50,000 per annum depending on shift pattern. Higher rates based on experience and performance. Other benefits include company pension, death in servicebenefit and 4 weeks paid holiday (increasing to 5 weeks after 2 years) + bank holidays. Training in new techniques / skill sets as required.
  • Paid overtime work (time and a half for late shifts and double time for bank holiday/Sunday work as well as time off in lieu of working extra hours)
  • Hours of work are 08.00 to 16.30 Mon - Fri, with overtime available, and on-call one weekend in four/five during busy periods. Night Shift (16.30 to 01.00) working is also available, either permanent or rotating days and nights.
